Testing mods for fun then uninstalling them via vortex?

If you disable a mod (you don't even have to uninstall it), all files, lose or whatever, will be removed out of the game folder.

Most mods can be uninstalled savely. If a mod comes with plugins (.esp files, which are listed in the Plugin tab) disabling the mod will leave residues in the save game. But even this usually doesn't cause any problems. In rare cases you can see some unintended side effects which can be resolved by cleaning up the save game. Only very few mods are "one way", i.e. cannot be removed from a saved game after using them. That should ALWAYS be noted in the mod's description, though.

you can do this - but with caveats, as grestorn has specified.

this is what i do when i do exactly as you request;

make a backup of my current game and use a program to move that save off to a backup directory.

add the mod or mods i want to test, load up the game, play around, see if i like it. this game is going to be a 'throwaway'.

after i'm done with my testing, i remove the mods from my load order and restore the save i backed up previously. if i want to add the mod or mods to my game i go ahead and do it. if i dont want to add them, i'm in the same point in time before i started my testing and life goes on.

some mods - like UFO4P cannot and should not be removed because it will mess up your game. I do this mostly with texture mods as they are the ones that will cause minimum issues.

if i want to add something more complex, like for example, sim settlements, or any expansions, then that will go in a new game - not in my current play through as those mods are quite detailed and can cause issues if i remove them from a play through.

but what you're asking can be done, it just requires a little bit of care and lots of backups.

Ok that's what I do. And thanks for the warning about sim settlements I might use that in my next play through after this. Because of that. And I always keep a spare save or download a save that takes place in Diamond city.
