Disabling Shadows

I've been meaning to get Skyrim running better on my laptop for a while. It's only a GT 310M but believe it or not my previous install of Skyrim actually ran alright (around 30-40 FPS outdoors). I seem to recall having shadows disabled but can't remember the exact means (Steam Cloud ate the ini a long time ago). The card does have 1GB of dedicated VRAM, so high res and the HD dlc are both viable.

Currently running at about 20 fps with shadows low, textures & models high/ultra (w/ HD DLC), medium draw distances, detail fade, no AA (high density screen makes it okay-ish) and a few small tweaks in the ini. What ini settings cause the biggest fps change, and what's the proper way to get rid of shadows for the fps boost that comes with that?

These two links might be useful to you:

RookieNoob's Tweak guide has tweaks for low end computers, and discusses their effects on both CPU and GPU performance.

Geforce Skyrim Tweak Guide has 20 pages of various tweaks, how they affect your performance, most of which is applicable to any kind of graphics card.

Both of these discuss shadows in detail, and may give you some other ideas to optimize your game. Good luck!
