Problem with moments where dialogue is forced upon the player.

Basically I've had this problem for a while now and seem to be the only one in the world with this problem. In short, whenever I reach a moment in the game where an NPC is supposed to initiate a conversation (When Mercer initiates you into the thieves guild, when the dark elf woman asks you if you hate nords after entering windhelm, when you approach the Winterhold College bridge and the elf mage stops you to asess your worth, ect.) You can probably guess how this is very game breaking as in many cases when the NPC doesn't activate me they end up just sitting there. If I try to activate them the game says "this person is busy." This isn't limited to certain NPCs or certain quest lines. It pertains to all of them. Every moment. Every situation. With the Dawnguard DLC fast approaching for the PC, I really need to get this fixed.

Is there anyone else out there with this issue? Anyone with any ideas on what might be causing the bug? Any help and any advice would be appreciated at this point because right now the game is unplayable.

Things I've tried:

-Deactivating all mods

-Verifying game cache

-Re-installing Skyrim

-Starting a new game

-Deleting Skyrim config.

Additional note: This didn't happen when I first installed Skyrim so I know it isn't an issue with my system. I'm assuming a mod or update has caused this, but nothing got fixed when I deactivated all of them. It also just seemed to pop out of nowhere. The only mod I had installed before the bug started happening was claralux lighting mod. I don't see why this would affect the AI but I uninstalled it just to be safe (to no avail). I'm at a complete loss here.

You might try uninstalling all of the mods exactly according to the mod author's instructions (some mods, like UFO have pretty specific uninstall procedures that can cause lasting problems if not followed).

Bben has a mod troubleshooting post on his personal blog that might help you...

You could try posting all your mods (includiung any you uninstalled before the problem arose) and someone might notice something...

Anyway hope some of that is useful to you!

Stop Being a Creepy Stalker Aerin
ROTFLOL! That is so awesome, I haven't seen that.

I don't use the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, but I remember reading a post around the forum somewhere, in which someone stated that this mod was causing issues with animations/NPC behavior post 1.6--I don't know if this is still an issue but it might be useful to check the mod's site again and see if there is an update and/or if this is an issue.

You could try verifying your cache through steam, just in case a file went missing...

Other than that, unless someone sees this and has your solution, it seems like you might have to go through the basic troubleshooting procedure. Bben's blog post here might be useful to help you with that.

Sorry wish I could be of more help!

I have the same problem ! Did you find a fix ? I hove tons of mods installed too.

Unfortunately I was unable to fix my save game. However, after uninstalling The Skyrim Unofficial Patch and starting a new game I haven't had any problems in the usual places. I'm nearly level 20 now and have successfully been able to do all the things I listed earlier. If you have that installed, make sure you completely uninstall it. For some reason when I deactivated it, it kept reactivating automatically which was causing me to believe it wasn't the problem. I hope this helps! Keep trying!
