Moraelin
To be honest, I think even desaturating it and adding an overlay is probably more work than strictly needed. I mean, it looks better, but someone without the time or experience to erase bits and whatnot could also simply just take the whole picture and do a hue rotation to blue, then up the brightness a bit. It's not the kind of thing that will get nominated for mod of the month, mind you, but it works for me when just wanting to turn something red into something blue, or whatnot, for my own use. Also one thing I found out when doing the Professional Suits for NV is that a simple way to make something look like cloth is to add a small amount of random noise. This works great if you softened it too much and it ended up looking like latex. Or you can simply fill a piece with a solid colour, add a little random noise, and there you go, instant cloth. Edit: and just to make it clear, most of the jackets in the Professional Suits are literally a solid fill plus random noise. Well, I did select around the buttons and whatnot first, but still, the cloth is just that. Got a bunch of thumbs up anyway :P
Moraelin
Also, on the topic of things that IMHO look nice on the Nexus: For a start, I'm surprised nobody mentioned yet A Clothes by Hentaihttp://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/images/11548-4-1330413325.jpghttp://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/images/11548-1-1330413323.jpgI guess people must have been turned off looking closer by its having "hentai" in the name :P It's a decent and lore-friendly dress though. Or the Saber Dress from the same author.http://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/images/11550-2-1330413612.jpg Or, if you can live with the mini-skirt, the Karliah Armor from the same author is actually pretty decent light armour, and the black leather goes well with a sneaky kind of character. And also goes well with a black cloak.http://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/images/7681-3-1328265521.jpg For the more armoured look. there's the Torumekian Armorhttp://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/images/16870-2-1336745785.jpg
Moraelin
Now that I did not know, that makes it much more likely I'll attempt to get further into modelling etc, just about anything beyond retex'ing vanilla files in Photoshop has baffled me, but that seems a good starting point (not just related to this thread) to then start learning the rest from. Ayup. And in fact, it's also something you can use too. If you want to mash up parts where the meshes would overlap, you can simply make the parts transparent. E.g., if you want the top part of a dress as a shirt, and the lower part of another dress as a skirt, but they're not separate pieces, you can simply make the lower part of the former and the upper part of the latter transparent, and there you go. In fact, as an example of what you can get starting exactly from that BDSM corset I mentioned earlier, I submit this:http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/images/377406-1340397617.jpg That skirt is just a rectangular select and fill of the lower part of the Yes Mistress corset. Took a few tries for the front and back parts to align, mind you. Then I made the upper part completely transparent, so I would have a skirt not a dress, and leave room for that Persona belly-shirt. Then came the mash-up part. I replaced the Yes Mistress thigh-high boots with the more practical Persona boots, in NifSkope, and copied-and-pasted the Persona shirt too, so the poor girl doesn't run around topless. Though probably an even easier thing you can do, is just to take the corset texture and fill everything transparent with some cloth texture, while leaving the corset as it is. That gives you something looking roughly like a strapless dress with a corset over the abdomen. It doesn't look half-bad IMHO. Edit: mind you, I'm not saying that the outfit in the picture would be practical for Skyrim. It works ok in the Mojave, though :P For Skyrim, I'd probably make it go all the way up to the shirt and join them into looking like one piece. And probably give it some sleeves and pants, because it's frikken cold out there. But, basically, it's just a random example of the kind of things you can get with just a rectangular select, fill tool, and some copy and paste. LarianHawke
The male characters in games I've found the sexiest have been mostly for their voices, and I think the heaps of screaming fangirls who agree with me are evidence of that. Look at all the girls who were in love with Varric from Dragon Age: II with his manly chest hair. Varric was -not- physically attractive. It was the lines he said and the amazing voice actor who made him sexy. Also Fenris, who wouldn't have been sexy if he didn't have that deep baritone and gothic romance-style brooding that we fangirls can't get enough of no matter how many times it is done and overdone. Trust me. The way to the heart of most girls, particularly myself and all the girls I know, has less to do with abs and more to do with character and chocolate vocal chords. I'm not saying women are blind to looks. It's just not the first thing that draws me to a character. I agree with this 100%. Fenris is a great example. Every single playthru of mine for DA2 my character has ended up in a relationship with him, even if at the beginning I say ok, this time, something different. Then I hear Gideon Emry and my stomach does a flip lol. It's the same in Skyrim.. Brynjolf is a good example there.. is he a good looking character? eh.. sort of.. but the voice, and the way he calls the female character "Lass" with that accent? I immediately went in search of a mod that made him marriable, and had I not found one, I probably would have researched and done it myself. Back to the point of the armor though, I agreed before and still with everything that's been said. Retexturing is all I know how to do though, and I've tried several times both with Blender and 3dsmax to try and create something and all that happens is a lot of frustration and cursing. But I am patient. Something will come along that will be beautiful, feminine, and lore friendly without half my char's privates hanging out. Kudos to all who have posted in this thread, it's been a great read.
tetradite
Brynjolf is a good example there.. is he a good looking character? eh.. sort of.. but the voice, and the way he calls the female character "Lass" with that accent? I immediately went in search of a mod that made him marriable, and had I not found one, I probably would have researched and done it myself. I appreciate that I have no chance of "getting it", 'cos I'm not into guys, but Brynjolf? Brynjolf??? Voice makes me want to kill the man, condescending little get! Maybe "lad" feels more condescending than "lass" does. :D Trying to think of any female characters that I actually like in this kind of way. And I think it's Mjoll the Lioness that does it for me on voice terms... kind of the right blend of tough-as-nails without being unfeminine, and there's something about that slight 'roll' to her accent. Most of the vanilla women either sound like weak little girls (Ysolda) or butch semi-men (Aela). Muiri is probably, for me the most aesthetically pleasing of the vanilla ladies (and it helps that she's a Breton, because I am at the minute too and the Nord women dwarf me to the point of comedy), but her voice is just from the weak little girl camp. Had to laugh when I was showing my mod to a friend, one of my NPC's is (I think) a fairly standard if humanised wood elf, she's low-ish weight, and I don't use any body replacers, and she's wearing the utterly concealing miner's clothes. She got the biggest reaction of anything in the mod from my friend, the reaction? "Oh my god look at her BOOBS!". Yeah? What about the 80,000 bookshelves I put together? What about the 100's of hours of work on the interiors and lights? Nope. Boobs. For reference, this is her. Yeah I suppose she does, but still
Moraelin
Well, that's the other thing about modding. No matter what you do or what pictures you post, a constant of the universe is that someone somewhere will A) comment on the T&A of the character, if it's female, or B) use it as an example of what's wrong with the world these days, or at the very least find a way to squeeze it into their problem with anime or whatever, no matter if it fits or not. Well, the latter is kept at a minimum these days by the mods, but you still occasionally get WTH moments like seeing a girl in a historically-accurate Renaissange jack of plates referred to as an "anime chick in khakis". But don't be surprised if you occasionally see your mod or pictures on Something Awful as an example of what's wrong with the world today. You may think, "nah, obviously neither my recolour of a standard and lore-conform dress, nor the character wearing it, can possibly be mistaken for having anything to do with anime or whatever these guys have a problem with", but bear in mind that some people just need to find something to complain about. Also that C) the Dunning-Kruger effect: those who know the least about something, e.g., about lore or history, overestimate their knowledge the most. The guy feeling a need to give a definitive opinion about how your recolour doesn't fit the lore or history, isn't a historian, but the guy who thinks everything was dark brown and black in the middle ages, because he saw two B flicks that were kinda set in the middle ages. So, what can I say, you got the nice version if they only picked on her assets :P
tetradite
So, what can I say, you got the nice version if they only picked on her assets :P Lol, to be fair he is a good friend (this happened in person not online), I know him well and I should've predicted the reaction. He's a lovely guy, the closest thing I have in the world to a brother, but he's got a somewhat one-track mind :D
CassiPie
Also, on the topic of things that IMHO look nice on the Nexus:For a start, I'm surprised nobody mentioned yet A Clothes by Hentai I hadn't seen the first one, but I actually did mention the Saber dress in my first post. Along with the Triss outfits. Thanks for showing me the "A Clothes by Hentai." Will definitely be downloading that one. I also really loved the 'Japanese' style outfit that another poster pointed out. Already have it on my character. It's a black version of a very modest dress that isn't so over-the-top Japanese that it looks too out of place. Just out of place enough for my Breton courtier. I find it ironic that a mod that names itself after one of the most blatantly boobs-centric animes of all time, Sekirei, had one of the most modest dress options I have seen to date. And it actually has a few color options for that modest dress. Just goes to show, you can't automatically judge an anime-lover, and assume they're all pervs. I happen to love anime, as well. So there ya go. (Black Butler, anybody? Deathnote? ^_^)As to the other suggestions, well... if I could live with a miniskirt, I'd never have started this forum thread. hehe. And finding badass-looking armor has never been a problem for me. The problem I've had has been with finding things for my prissy ex-courtier and my thieves or assassins to wear that didn't scream, "I'm a thief or assassin! Come arrest me!" Thus far for my thieves and assassins, the Triss armors have kept me pretty happy.Though, thanks to this thread, I've actually been directed to some pretty decent options that I didn't know about before. The posters on this forum have uncovered just enough options to keep me happy until I eventually figure out modding. You're definitely a girl after my own heart. You seem like the sort of friend I'd take shopping and continually say "Me too!" after everything you say. haha. GirlGamer55
I agree with the OP. My character now is a Breton and i'm sure she would have brought some court like dresses for parties, meeting important people, events, weddings, or just to feel at home in her small castle. From my searching I have found a few ok mods that add nice armor that is more my taste...less boob showing and more realistic and something a classy Breton might wear. Don't know if anyone has posted these if they have I'm sorry lol. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14031 - Recolor of the wedding dress mesh, but nicely done.http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5577 - A dress but it's a little low cut..http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10154 - Saber armor but not the one from Hentai And this one someone found for me...russian site btw http://anvilbay.ru/files/wbdress/ - Lovely white dress...
