NMM Can't Install Mods

Hi all,

I have recently decided to play Skyrim and want my first experience to be with Mods. I've just upgraded my PC and in particular I really want the 2K textures mod. I spent over an hour last night playing round with Nexus Mod Manager and can't for the life of me get it to work.

Anyway, I installed NMM without issues. I used a custom directory on my D:\ for the mods and install info and NMM detected my Skyrim folder fine. I then went to the website and downloaded SkyUI and the 4 2K texture mods. I proceeded to enable all the mods which seemed to work fine. I then booted up the game and didn't notice any difference in the textures so assumed this had not installed correctly.

After some reading online I found some suggestions to check my 'Data Files' in the launcher. I opened the launcher and clicked Data Files and naturally it's empty (note: the button is not greyed out there are just no mods showing!).So I've tried a number of things to fix this and nothing seems to have worked.

* I've tried to reinstall NMM to the default directory (D:\Games\...).

* I tried to install a Steam Workshop mod to see if Skyrim would accept mods at all and this appears in my data files list.

* I did a quick check of the Skyrim Data folder in steamapps and the files seem to be getting placed there when I install a mod (although I'm not sure what to check exactly).

* I tried to verify the integrity of the game cache and it replaced one file but hasn't seemed to have helped.

Curiously, when I install a mod there is still on the two files showing on the plugins page which from what i read is incorrect.

Anyway i'm quickly running out of ideas. I might try install a mod manually tonight and see if that works but don't have high hopes. If anyone has any suggestions of what to try, please let me know.

FYI - I have a steam copy of Skyrim and I have UAC disabled.

OK

  1. Texture replacing mods...If they do not contain an .esp or .esm file, they will not show up as an active, or inactive, mod. All they do is replace textures
  2. If the mods have particular install directions, be sure to read them and follow them to the letter. Especially if they have load ordering statements.
  3. If you have a lot of mods and they make you crash...Use the BOSS program.

I hope that the above helps you out.

Thanks, I was expecting to see the texture mods in the data files. It's hard to tell whether the textures have actually changed otherwise. Do I need to do anything other than enable texture quality = High to enable the textures?

I also installed SkyUI which also didn't appear in my Data Files list, but I'll try install a few other non-texture mods tonight and see if it works.

  • 1 year later...

It sounds like I'm having a similar issue. I've been using NMM since December 2012, and I just ran into this problem 2 days ago. I've been following my plugins tab whenever I install my mods, and I've noticed that any mods that perform retextures (environment or actor), do not show up in my plugins. I really don't know what to do at this point, as I've gone as far as uninstalling all my mods and then reinstalling them. Many of these mods have been working with absolutely no issue for months, until just now, so I'm fairly certain something has lost functionality but I can't confirm what it is.

Any suggestions?
