DrSeltsam
Hi, i heard that skyrim supports 4gb RAM usage for quite some time now. However it never seems to use that much RAM on my computer, even though I have 16Gb of memory and am using Texture packs. The usage is usually around 1600Mb or so. Is this behaviour normal?Skyrim also runs fairly unstable and tends to crash after loading a new area from time to time. Could there be a connection? Thanks in advance. Cipherthe3vil
I'd like to support this post. My skyrim tends to crash at times as well and I'm fairly sure its memory related, so a way to make Skyrim use more at a time or without a limit at all would be most helpful. Deleted4404112User
What usually helps me when my game starts crashing is loading a different save from a different character, playing it abit, and then loading up your main character again. Don't know why but it always helps me.
DrSeltsam
Thanks for the answer, I might try that some time. But I still find it odd that Skyrim never utilizes more than 2Gb of RAM. Is it only like that on my system?

Yeah, me too: 64bit OS, 16gb RAM, my TESV.exe is LAA, I have texture packs and other mods galore, yet Skyrim never goes over 1.7gb RAM. That kind of irritates me. Makes me wonder if it could run without any stutters if it DID go over 2gb ram use.
DrSeltsam
Bump-a-di-Bump Please people, all I ask for is some information: - Is it normal to have just 1,6 Gb RAM utilization?- How much does YOUR skyrim use? Or is this just some kind of bug due to the crapload of mods i have installed?
TTek
same here... my max was 1,8gb ...
VoltarDaedra
TESV.exe never will use more than 2Gb RAM, cause it 32bit process. Don't panic - it is normal ;)For now I don't understand all mechanics how game's engine works with 64bit OS and RAM more than 2Gb but what we can see on example of my PC: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64, 8Gb RAM and 1Gb VideoCard. So, after booting and logoning, with mininmal programs in memory loaded, I have total RAM consuming about 1.2Gb + 1.2Gb in paging swap file (pagefile.sys). After launching and playing Skyrim about 2 hours I minimized game to tray and again started Process Explorer (ProceXP.exe) to see changes in consuming RAM. So they are: consumed totally 4.9Gb RAM and paging system consumed also ~4Gb. TESV.exe still showed that it eat no more than 1.8Gb! Little calculations aboout RAM when running Skyrim: 4.9Gb (total consuming) - 1.2Gb (memory consuming after OS started) = 3.7Gb exactly this amount of RAM summary consumed my Skyrim with 100+ mods. For clean tests, I've unloaded all non critical software (antivirus, torrent-client etc.) before launching Skyrim. So, no one sofware can eat that huge amount of RAM (3.7Gb) but Skyrim :)
DrSeltsam
Huh this makes sense. It also makes me feel stupid, because I should have known, considering that I know a thing or two about computers/programming in general. Thanks a lot.
