Dahveed
I'm having this strange bug in which I can't join the companions on this character. I talk to Vignar Kodlak, after which the quest dialog ensues when I want to join the Companions. then Vignar Kodlak tells Vilkas, "take him outside and see what he can do". So Vilkas then proceeds to get up from his chair and... then stand there for all eternity. No amount of poking or prodding or running into him can get him to budge... Can this be because of a mod? I've disabled all mods related to NPC behavior (follower mods etc) and I've made several other toons and never had any trouble joining the companions... why would something like this bug out now? Any help would be appreciated.... *EDITED* I talked to Kodlak to trigger the event. The dialogue for the quest is triggered properly, but then Vilkas gets up and just stands there. xlcr
@Dahveed, hi, to get the joining the companions script to kick off properly, i think you might need to find and speak to elder harbinger Kodlak Whitemane, he's usually downstairs in his quarters at the far end. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Companionshttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Companions http://images.uesp.net/thumb/9/9c/SR-npc-Kodlak_Whitemane.jpg/600px-SR-npc-Kodlak_Whitemane.jpg Edited July 5, 2012 by xlcr
Snowsong
Yeah, you have to talk to Kodlak Whitemane. I've done this quest twice and didn't have any bugs.
Dahveed
Typo, sorry. I did indeed talk to Kodlak, that is what I meant to type (not Vignar). They're both in the basement talking, and I tell Kodlak I want to join, which is when he tells Vilkas to take me outside so he can test me. *That* is when it becomes bugged. He executes his dialogue as though he would train me (as he has many times before for me for several different toons) but then just stands there forever. xlcr
@Dahveed, ok, so you talked to Kodlak about joining, Vilkas opposes this, Kodlak reassures Vilkas you're OK and directs Vilkas to take you outside to train or be tested. Now try going outside Jorrvaskr in the back where the training equipment is, hopefully Vilkas will follow/appear, i hope lol.http://images.uesp.net/thumb/6/60/SR-npc-Vilkas.jpg/600px-SR-npc-Vilkas.jpg Edited July 6, 2012 by xlcr
Dahveed
Thanks for your suggestions. It turns out that the bug can be traced back to a mod called "Complete Skyforge Kit". The modder somehow tinkered with the Navmesh and broke it completely, so that any quests involving NPCs around the Companion's mead hall will break. Avoid this mod. xlcr
@Dahveed, cool, glad you traced the problems back to an installed mod. Users reported issues with broken/restricted movement of characters in the navmesh areas around Jorrvaskr, Skyforge, and Dragonsreachcaused by both versions of this mod in the comments sections which is why most people monitor comments before/after installing any mod.Complete Skyforge Kit by MrZombie - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8856Complete Skyforge Kit v3 by Mr Zombie - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9450 Modders need to be careful editing with the Creation Kit world/cell viewer which has a tendency to modify/break the navmesh in areasthey never intended to change. Navmesh editing can be alittle tricky. It would be great if the Nexus consider setting up somekind of dedicated lookup page that modders/users can update with a simple sortable matrix listing all mods by category, maybe something like this: category, name, description, ver, link, v1.5 tested, v1.6 tested, reported issues, co-exists w/these mods, does not co-exist w/these mods, , # of endorsements, # of downloads, last edit update.
