Cyprez
I recently Installed my FO3 GOTY edition. It's of course a legal copy. The last time I played FO3 was back in 2010. Now I have a new computer so I thought: Why not play FO3 again. Problem: 1. Fallout 3 does not seem to install properly. I run the install and everything seems to be in order. But there is no FO3 startup shortcut that appears on the desktop. Neither does it appear anywhere else. So I checked the folder where I installed the game and it was totally EMPTY. No wonder I couldn't install the latest patch. I tried to run the game from the CD anyway. The game starts up.... and crashes. Any suggestions? bben46
It sounds like it is not completing the installation. Some suggestions Clean your HD before starting - remove all old copies of FO3, including any failed installations. Run a registry cleaner to clean any old FO3 registry entries (I use the FREE ccleaner)To properly use a registry cleaner, remove the program first. Reboot the computer, run the cleaner, then reboot again.Defrag to be sure you have a large enough contiguous space for the install ( a defragged install runs better) Make sure you are logged in as the administrator.Try installing outside of the default location - It is 'protected' by Windows UAC. I install to C:\Games\FO3 Check the cd for scratches. Usually they can be polished out. Here is a link to a site that explains how to recover scratched CDs & DVDshttp://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-repair-and-recover-data-from-damaged-cds-or-dvds/

The issue is now fixed and I can play FO3. The game freeze sometimes.. but that's nothing! What I did was that I made some changes in UAC. I changed to an option that made it possible to install programs without any interference of UAC. I also defragged the hardrive, aswell as deactivating my anti-virus program. But I think the problem was rooted in UAC and nothing else. It probably blocked the installation files from being transfered to the appropriate folder.
