goranpaa
Hi! I wonder what would be the best way to go for a 2K modded Skyrim SE on a 1920 x 1080 P resoloution monitor? I recently did upgrade the cpu to a Ryzen 1600X, 16 gb of DDR4 2666 + a Samsung SSD. I do not plan to overclock the cpu for the moment at least. But what I want to know from you guys are if I should swap the video card? = Sapphire Nitro 380 4 gb. For a Sapphire Nitro RX 580 4gb. Or replace my old Acer G246HL 1080P, 24 inch and 60 Hz monitor for a 27" Asus VZ279HE 75 Hz 1080P? I could of coarce go for a GTX 1060 3 gb. I do not have the funds for a long time to get the 6gb flavour unfortunatly. Or both swapping for the video card = RX 580 4 gb + the Asus monitor at the same time. Though I worry that 3 gb of video card memory are a bit thin for a 2K / 1080 P modded SE with a lot of landscape and flora mods and and 3gb of VRAM might not be very future proof either? The Nitro 380 4 gb runs ok. with an average of 50 fps smooth and with no stutter even at the known stutter fest places around Skyrim since I got the Ryzen 1600X etc. Though I belive that the RX 580 4 gb will run a little bit better FPS vise and also add slightly to the image quality. The Acer monitor despite its age are pretty nice with ok. black and good other colours + contrasts. .But the 60 Hz update frequency seem to make my eyes sore at longer gaming sessions. Then of coarce a 27" screen size would be nice. Another option is to go a 24" Asus 1080 P, 75Hz with Freesync. What do you think? Edited December 20, 2018 by goranpaa
HeyYou
Spend on the vid card, and stick with your current monitor for a while, then, upgrade the monitor later. I have a 1060 6gb card, and it works rather well for Skyrim, and FO4. It runs the older games flawlessly.
goranpaa
Hi! Thanks for your advice. But should i go for the RX 580 4gb or the GTX 3 gb Then? As said I can't afford the GTX 1060 6 gb for a longer while unfortunatly. The GTX cards are quite expensive here in Sweden. Edited December 20, 2018 by goranpaa
HeyYou
Performance between the two is REALLY close (1060 6gb and 580 4 gb.) I would go for the 580. That said, there is only 20 dollars difference between the 580, and 1060 6gb here in the states...... why are they so much more expensive there?? goranpaa
Ok. Thanks, then I will go for the RX then. I think that what makes the GTX cards more expensive here are due to taxes. And that the shops have noticed the popularity of these cards and then upped the price tags. The NVIDIA cards have always been a bit more costly than AMD cards here btw. Edited December 20, 2018 by goranpaa
goranpaa
I got the Sapphire Nitro RX 580 4gb today. I can'y say anything but that it was a good upgrade. Thanks again HeyYou for the advice!I ended up with a steady 60 fps outdoors and I can see a small improvement in the image quality compaired to the Sapphire Nitro 380 4gb. Next thing to get will be an Asus VZ279HE 27" IPS panel and 75 Hz monitor. Edited December 20, 2018 by goranpaa
