Do texture replacers work the same in Vortex as previously?

Texture replacers used to (or still) overwrite the target files in the game data directories. If you wanted to undo the operation, you were stuck weeding them out my by hand or restoring from a saved version. When Vortex copies texture files, does it make a backup of the (to be) overwritten files before overwriting, enabling you to undo the operation?
