Well the reason we are having difficulty understanding what is going on is that we don't understand how you managed to play for a few hours before "putting it on Steam". Because irrespective of whether we installed from the disc or from a digital download, we all had to activate the game on Steam before playing.

Well in that case you are in luck, you just need to activate the code once, since you already did it and installed skyrim just go to steam online mode, libraby, skyrim and right click it, then go to properties and go to the updates and make sure the auto updates are not disabled. That should fix your problem, I have a physical copy as well and I only needed o activate skyrim once in my account, no need for the code again.

EDIT: Just read it again, you said you played before putting it on steam? That´s not possible I´m afraid, all legal copies need a steam account and need you to activate skyrim with the code before installing it.

It's possible to own a legal copy *and* to jailbreak a game. There's many times over the years when I've used so-called "cracking" tools on legally purchased copies of my games in order to get rid of irritating copy protection. I even remember the first time I did it, on the C=64 playing Apache, where every time you flew past a military base your helicopter would freeze while you had to look up a code in your manual - while you were getting shot at by enemy units. And if you didn't get the code in time (because the manual wasn't sitting right beside the computer), you'd get shot down by your own base and fail the mission. And, just incidentally, until very recently (when the Conservative regime in Ottawa bent over and grabbed its ankles for the RIAA/MPAA/BSA) it was perfectly legal here to jailbreak software you already owned.

There are perfectly valid reasons for not wanting to run Steam at the same time as Skyrim, and depending on the jurisdiction, it remains legal to do so.

Lol you just gave it away that you have a pirated version. How did you "LEGITAMATELY" install it without activating the key on steam?
