Upload for beta-testing

Greetings.

I want to upload my new mod mod for the beta-testers, I do not want it to become public until it is fully tested.

What is the procedure to upload it, hide from the public and allow ONLY the selected people (beta-testers) to download it?

Anything uploaded to the Nexus instantly becomes public. If you want to do some initial releases for texters, your best bet is to use somewhere like fileshack, megaupload, Rapidshare, or similar, and then send the link to those who you want testing your mod.

You could however just simply upload it to the Nexus, noting that it is a beta in need of more testing. Most people don't download beta mods because they have the potential to screw up their games in fun and new ways. The advantage to doing it this way is that you don't need to hunt down people to give you feedback on the mod, if something doesn't work right, you'll usually hear about it. It also gives you access to a larger population of users so that if there are conflicts between your mod and another mod, they can be identified right away, this is important for both popular mods and more obscure mods as in either case conflicts may break the entire mod. The more people who can report conflicts, the more likely you will be able to figure out what part of your mod is the cause, and more likely you will be able to figure out a solution (either mentioning that a conflict exists, or by making minor changes to your mod).

What he said.

Upload your file to a file mirror site and send the direct link via PM to those that want to participate in the BETA.

You can find a list of file mirrors in this link along with details for each one: (I like MediaFire)

Go ahead and throw it to the wolves. Just be prepared to ignore the people who did not bother to read the read me, whine because it wrecked their game, were not able to DL it, didn't work like they expected and complaints about it not being ready for prime time after you told them it was a beta.

Note for those who don't know: Beta means it is a TEST file and not a finished product - download at your own risk.

You will get a lot of good feedback ( and some useless whining)
