New Vortex Install- can't deploy F4SE

I'm switching from NMM to vortex. I did a clean install of FO4, and ran a new game as far as exiting the Vault. I installed Vortex, and ran the game OK. I tried deploying F4Se from the instructions (https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Tool_Setup:_Script_Extenders), but when I try to run the game I am getting an error: Couldn't find Faollout4.exe.

I'm really lost here, and multiple searches have turned up no help. Obviously, I did something wrong, but I can't figure out what. I think it must have to do with:

"In the example of SKSE64, you need to create a new folder called "Data" on the top level and move the scripts folder inside it.

Then move skse64_1_5_53.dll, skse_loader.exe, skse64_steam_loader.dll to the top level. You can delete the skse64_2_00_10 folder after this."

I'm not sure I did this right. In the directory where my archive is, I created a DATA folder and copied the extracted files there. Is that correct?

The only thing that should go into the top-level Data folder you created is the Scripts folder found in the F4SE archive. Did you add the .dll and .exe files as well?

Yes.

To get everything where it needs to be, you'll need to make some changes. I am assuming you have a mod named "F4SE" that you installed according to the procedure described in the Knowledge Base.

  1. Locate the F4SE mod on the Vortex mods page and disable it.
  2. Click "Open in File Manager."
  3. Given what you've said, the mod should contain a folder named "Data" and nothing else.
  4. Open the Data folder. Given what you've said, it should contain a "Scripts" folder, two .dll files, and one .exe file.
  5. Move the latter three files from the Data folder and place them on the same level as the Data folder. You now have a mod folder containing four elements on the same level: the Data folder, two .dll files, and one .exe file. Inside the Data folder is the Scripts folder and nothing else.
  6. Close the folder.
  7. In the mods detail pane make sure the Mod Type is "dinput."
  8. Enable the mod and deploy.
  9. Open the game folder (where the game .exe is located) to make sure the .dll files and the.exe file are there.
  10. Start the game by clicking on "f4se_loader.exe."
  11. Configure your F4SE tool in the Vortex dashboard, if you wish to start the game from the dashboard.

Let me know what happens.

Got it working. Thanks for your help!
