Hey! So after a few more years I have decided to give Morrowind another go, before Skyrim DLC comes to PC.

But I have given in a few goes in the past but thus far not got into it. but here we go again!

I got the gold edition (all expansions)

But after I get off the boat and out of that first building then what? I don't know what the main quest is nor how to start it haha. I do love how the game just puts you into the thick of it without a guiding hand but I need a little nudge.

how do I join a house? What are they for do I get any perks for joining? Becoming the top guy?

Haha I don't know anything about the game. But I guess all I am asking is

What should I do once I get out of the first building? do you guys recommend anything?

Oh also I have downloaded the graphics extender mod. Will be looking for some more to make the entire experience better, 10 year old game but I have been told it still keeps up with Oblivion and Skyrim!

Just took a look around online, Morroblivion?

I would recommend reading this article, Starting Out. It doesn't contain any spoilers and has lots of good tips for beginning your game.

This site, Morrowind at the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP), has lots of articles and information about every aspect of the game. If you are ever stuck or need to find out something, it's a great place to start.

I personally use this collection of mods, Morrowind Overhaul (Download) (Home Page) as a base, and then install any other mods that I want on top of it. All the mods in the collection stay fairly true to the vanilla look, feel, and sound of the game, while improving the graphics and environments. For the most part it is an easy installation process, but I would recommend making a backup of your Morrowind folder before installing since it is not easy to remove (since you can't use a mod manager to install it).

I'm looking at MO, but what a monster! The thing is 1.6 GB (about five hours of downloading from here).

To start the main quest you have to go to Balmora and Talk to Caius Cosades, for Bloodmoon you have to make your way to Khull and Talk to one of the guys at the dock to get to Solstheim (the silt strider guys can get you to either place, also consult the map, the map is your friend). For Tribunal you have to play the game long enough to get attacked by a Dark Brotherhood assassin while you sleep, this will set off the chain of events to get to Mournhold (consult your journal often, it can be helpful). As for the great houses, completing the quest line for any of the 3 will earn you a stronghold, which you will need if you accumulate a lot of items. To join house Hlaalu, you have to specialize in stealth, and speak to some lady at the Hlaalu manor in Balmora. To join house Redoran you have to specialize in combat, and talk to someone in Under Skarr in Ald Ruhn. To join house Televanni you have to specialize in magic, and have to talk to the mouths in the Televanni council house in Sadrith Mora. Hope this helped, I haven't played the game in a very long time.
