NLmitchieNL
Hello, i'm trying to create new journals in the game , thus in the Creation Kit i Duplicated one, and tried to edit the world art model (.nif) Then when i'm trying to select a .nif, i can't find any because they're in the BSA files, and I can't open those or extract the meshes out of them. When i press Cancel because i can't find any meshes, the kit leaves me with no selected mesh thus making my Journal not have any mesh/texture So the real question is. How do i extract the meshes or textures from a .bsa file to, let's say my Desktop?Fallout Mod Manager won't work. Oblivion BSACommander doesn't work either. BSAort or something also doesn't work and just gives me new .bsa files. I just need the .nif so i can put it in a folder where i can select it again trough the Creation Kit item base editor. I also don't know if there is a topic about this. There probably is.. but i would like a better chance of getting an answer this way. JerisEnigma
EDIT: EDIT: Do you know a way to extract just ONE nif, rather than every file in the bsa?Not 100% relevant here, so I'd just up and delete my post, but I can't tell how to do that here. >.< /newb Edited August 28, 2012 by JerisEnigma
Dragten
If you want to use a vanilla mesh, without any changes, you dont need to extract them.Just COPY the file path from existing object and paste it in the window, where you have to select the model Make sure you are in the right root folder. For instance, if there is a mesh in data/meshes/weapons/iron/sword.nifThe path in vanilla object would be like:weapons/iron/sword.nifcopy that, and paste it when you are in the data/meshes folder. I hope it makes sense.

I was trying to use an actor nif (copyed the path from the RACE) and tryed to put it on a MISC and STAT to create more trophies for my current WIP.Any idea why it didn't work? There's a thread on beth forum where many claim you can use actor meshes for other type of objects. Thanks Edited January 9, 2013 by LukeH
MShoap13
Sounds to me like your trying to get into a can of worms here. What exactly does your trophy look like in-game? I know when you use the body.nif for a static object it has no animation data and will be stuck in the "T-pose". I'm pretty sure the head, hands, and feet won't be displayed either and the joints where they'd normally appear (as well as the inside area of the body) will be transparent, and hollow. While it may be possible to merge the four different .nif's into one .nif, pose it how you want it, redo the UV Mapping so it all has one texture, combine the four separate diffuse textures into one that lines up with your UV Map, combine the normals and speculars, etc., this sounds like a ton of work. I'm not sure about getting FaceGenData to work for a static object... Maybe some more experienced modders have some workarounds for some or even all of the possible issues, so ask over in the Bethesda Forums thread too. Also, I believe there's a mannequin mod (or two) here on the Nexus that uses detailed character bodies instead of wooden mannequins so that's worth looking into for your purposes as well. If you use any assets from any other mod and plan to distribute yours, be sure to check the permissions section of the mod and if need be, speak with the author about using their assets. LukeH
The mannequins are actors, not static, and I started adding trophies that way. Anyway I guess I was on a wrong path trying to put those meshes on a static...anyway I needed mostly animals not humanoids. Will go with mannequin like trophies and hopefully some modders who wish to contribute will help me with meshes for the trophies in interesting poses...
