Achievements are Lame.

@ above post:

Messing with the console has a chance to randomly disable achievements forever on specific saves. Different commands seem more or less likely to cause it. TGM is basically guaranteed IIRC.

Actually, what's weird is that, aside from not using console very much (to retrieve companions, get rid of the default bow when I first hire companions, rare screenshots, and getting around quest bugs - that's it. I don't even know what "TGM" means), everything I've read on the subject tells me that, unlike FONV (and I think FO3), in Skyrim using console has no effect on achievements. Even in FONV, using console disables achievements until you restart the game and I'd wager the vast majority of my sessions don't have console commmands.

A winnar is you.

huh?

That's what is logged in the Papyrus log whenever you get a new achievement. For example:

[07/29/2012 - 08:24:26PM] Info: *Achievement 47 awarded - a winnar is you!*

[07/29/2012 - 08:24:26PM] Info: *Achievement 48 awarded - a winnar is you!*

Lol, that's actually pretty cool in a goofy kind of way. :teehee:

Achievements can be well done, but are Skyrim's? Well, no. They're basically all things you'll do during the course of the game, and half of them you can get just screwing around. I don't mind achievements either way, but when they're some sort of challenge, it's kind of fun to get them. I mean, it's only natural to enjoy finally beating this one crazy, hard challenge that isn't a part of normal gameplay. Even so, achievements don't really need to exist, but I guess having verification you did it is better than just knowing you did and no one believes you lol

As well, achievements which unlock something in game are more fun than Skyrim's too. Those should require a true challenge too, in my opinion, but even if they're give aways, at least you get something for it. Skyrim's achievements literally do nothing for the player.

I agree with you, 100%

I liked how Fallout New Vegas had its own achievements, which actually gave you perks when you earned them. Get Lord Death and it gives you a small damage bonus, for example.

I couldn't care less about Steam achievements but many people do like them. Just disable the pop-up or keep Steam offline if you don't like them.

I disagree. Speaking as someone who is very task & goal oriented I love achievements. They give me a little something extra to focus on apart from the story and personal goals....in a way, they're like quests but for the whole game.

The beautiful thing about them is that if you don't like them, you can simply ignore them. They're not required to complete the game. So people ike me can enjoy the extra goals and people like the OP can follow their own bliss.
