justinrpg
I do not like how the controls work for riding horses. Is there a mod to make riding horses have the same controls as when you are walking and running? Like with the use of the mouse and the w key. I find using just the keyboard to control the horse very difficult. Is there a mod for this? If not, can one be made? DrakeTheDragon
There are some which are coming quite close, but sadly I couldn't yet find one making it perfectly so:https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/9460 I did give it a try myself as well, back when I was still more actively working on my ridable creature dragon mod, but it's not like the game makes it in any way easy for you. You can't even query your looking angle correctly from inside a script, while on horse. :pinch:
Moktah
Off topic question for DrakeTheDragon Out of curiosity, how do you control your flying dragon?Do you use Jump to go up and Duck to go down?I would try to download it (if you have it avail for download) but I've been trying to keep my gamemod free(or should I say bare minimum) while I create my mod
DrakeTheDragon
You could've also just asked on my Anthro-Dragon mod page or any of the pictures or videos I showcased it in, but doesn't matter. My Gliding Flight approach is based closely on gliding physics, as in the majority of the flight is gliding.- You soar along with your wings creating up-drift from forwards movement, controlling your flight direction with the mouse, gaining speed by diving down, losing speed by aiming up, the slower you go the faster you drop, the faster you go the higher you can rise.- Closer to the ground there's now more up-drift than high in the air, making it a little easier to stay afloat above ground, but not in anyway overly so, so you can still crash land easily, if you don't watch out.- These physics go for all, whether winged races/creatures capable of flight (can be configured in an INI file which they are) or non-flying actors using a static wing glider of your choosing (you can actually make every wearable item a wing glider, to enable incorporation of existing gliders into my framework with ease).- And winged races/creatures can also flap their wings, and now also into different directions even (jump=up, forward=forward/accelerate, backward=backward/brake), to further gain speed, height, brake down abruptly, or slow your fall.- Additional flight movements are in a planning stage still, and wing flaps will later cost fatigue, be dependent on skills/attributes in their magnitude, or whatever.- Wind currents, thermal columns and the like are also not out of question. But it will be hard realistically scattering the landscape with these. I wanted to do a public release of the framework, once I'm done with the first set of animations, the scripting's working without any left bugs, and the physics are feeling fine enough to me. Sadly my free time lately didn't allow for any progress again though.I can also do private shares of testing versions, but first of all I need to make sure there aren't any bugs left and all is working fine in everybody's games. Getting back on topic it would've been perfect, if I did manage to make my ridable dragon always turn exactly to where I'm aiming with my camera, as otherwise I can impossibly query reliably the camera angle I need for the gliding calculations, while riding on it. Alas, I didn't succeed. So I still have to navigate the ridable dragon flight by buttons instead, which doesn't make it even remotely as enjoyable as when flying myself. But I'm not yet done with the idea. I just don't have time to go for some of the numerous other approaches I wanted to try still.
Moktah
Thx for the feedbackSounds like you've done an amazing amount of work on your mod there. I know what you mean about free time.I'm also finding it hard to find time myself. The mod I've been working on makes steering/controlling horses so much more easier.Since you're still steering you're dragon the same way, I'm thinking it will make your dragon flightfeel more natural. Least thats what its done for horses on my end. Grant it... as the author of the mod,I may be a bit on the biased side. My biggest hurdle lately has been to (figure out how to....) create a hud element to my liking that is flexible and customizable.I started in the direction of Hud Status Bars Enhanced but I'd rather my mod be able to stand on its own. Bar only/Text only/Bar and TextBar/Text Color per Travel Mode (Run/Walk/Sneak Run and so on)Color Palette changeable depending on light levelBar orientation (vertical/Horizontal)Hide Bar (auto/manual) In case someone is interested in what the mod does. Think of your cars radioYou can create presets for your favorite channelsMy mod allows you to create presets for different speeds you'd like to travel. Lets take the horse for example.Create one speed setpoint for -10then another for -5then your default set at 0 (default can be set for whatever you want though)then one for 5and then another for 10got it? -10 -5 0 5 10These speeds were all set up for a mount that is Walkingwhen you set up your running speedsFor the sake of conversationcreate the same setpoints for Horse Run Mode All of these speed setpoints are done via an in game user interface thats pretty easy to work with (again, I may be biased hehe) Now jump in the gameWith a press of a button, your mouse wheel changes functions from adjusting your camera distance to adjusting your speed settings so you jump on the horse and you started out walkingthe gaurd you are following is going super slowso you roll your mousewheel down and your horse slows down to the next speed adjustment you created (-5)you decide to take a stroll down a footpath thats normally impossible to navigateslow down even more (roll mouse down again for a speed offset of -10)I have navigated some extremely narrow twisty roads with ease like thisYou walk out on the roadits clear aheadso crank your mouse wheel up (the horse speeds up) (-5)faster (click the mouse up again) now you are at normal walk speed (0)faster (up again) now your horse is still using the walk animation and you are walking faster (5)faster (up again) walking top speed (10)FASTER (up again) the horse automatically goes into the running mode and goes to the slowest run speed offset (-10)FASTER (up again) and yep, it goes to the next preset. I can have my horse going into a real good run down a road, slow down with my mouse then turn tightly around a treeto me, it feels more like I'm controlling a horse with reigns.(in case anyone wants to know, no I didn't create any voices saying YAAAA YAAAA or WOOOOAHyou'll have to improvise and yell it out yourself) I'll see if I can put together a video (ha if I can find time)

DrakeTheDragon
Well, it definitely "does" work, at least it did for me. It's just not a perfect solution, as I haven't yet seen any. If your horse is not at least trying to turn towards the center of your screen when you move your mouse, then you're having an error in its setup or a missing requirement, e.g. OBSE. Going by your past posts, are you even using OBSE? You complained about it having too many requirements, while it has 0, and said you won't be using it for that reason inside the OBSE comments. So when you aren't using OBSE, like you said back then, then all of these mods, no matter which ones you're linked, will never work. (And I personally don't care being called a douchebag by you in your other topic, I actually didn't even know what the word meant some years ago and had to google it first, but please be aware I am also a volunteer moderator on this site, thus the staff badge under my name, and if some other staff member finds your post, well, let's just say it's not appreciated on this site. Look, we're all just trying to help you here. If our help doesn't work for you for whatever reason, then that's that. But being insulted as thanks for our time isn't due conduct on this site. If you don't want my help, just say so, and I'll stay away from your topics in future and spend my time helping elsewhere instead.)
