Cells not loading properly

Hi everybody,

I'm running out of ideas to find a way around this problem.

Cells load only partially - or not at all. Sometimes, ruins or caves are just a big blue-void with chunks of rocks and Draugrs floating around. Other times, it's inns or shops or the Ragged Flagon deprived of their furniture or walls with items cluttered around on no or partial floor. All are Vanilla places, including Vlindrel Hall in Markarth: enchanting room is a big blue hole.

Happens randomly for some places, and apparently not mod-related - or every time for some other places (my houses - which is a drag!). The most affected cells are those I've already cleared before - but you sometimes need to go back anyway to clear some other quests.

I have a couple of house mods - but these load perfectly, and none of the trouble-shooting cells are even remotely close to these houses.

- Have tried clearing my quest log - cleared 10 quests, but that did not seem to help.

- Have tried waiting 10 in-game days for cells to reset - no difference either.

- Console commands "pcb" or "restoreinterior" have no effect (unless I'm doing it wrong: I enter the bugging cell, type command, exist and re-enter).

- Game cache clean - and regularily checked.

- Data files clean from all deleted mods (I use NMM and manually double-check).

- All my save files are under 11 Mb.

- Always do clean save before I use a new mod - and if I detect a potential problem, erase all saves made with that mod enabled and revert to my clean save to resume playing.

- Number of mods down to 50 or so, absolutely no graphic mod (other than UNP and No More Blocky Faces) or sound mod. A few AI enhancing mods (AFT, Dovahkiin Relaxes, Too Followers Can Relax) that have been running great for over 20 or more levels so far.

Don't dare to use Wryebash or BOSS as my knowledge of game tempering is quite limited - I'm at ease with my computer but quite novice to modding (best I can do is read carefully the description pages and faithfully follow the mod creator's guidance... :ermm: ).

The only event which seems to coincide with the beginning of my troubles was I downloaded the CK.

My PC specs: i7 64bits 2.80 gHz, 4 dual cores + 4 virtual dual cores, 6 Gb RAM, nVidia GeForce GT 230 with 1.5 Gb VRAM, sound settings on 16 bits and 44.100 gHz - and I closely monitor temperatur and RAM usage. Game settings on High to Medium.

I have put over 300 hours in this game, and was level 65 when it started. Went 5 levels backwards trying to pick it up where things were still running fine - but that did not seem to work. Having to start over would be a total heart-breaker... :ohdear:

I'd be immensely grateful for any help anyone can offer... Advices? Hints? Similar experiences? Anything...

A million thanks in advance, guys (and girls)!..

Cheers to all from Paris :)

PS Sorry for the "strange" English, not my native language...

I have the same problem, notably the winterhold college. cant pin it on mods as it happened on a clean install without any additions whatsoever, also it kept happening during the quest to obtain the skull of coruption. Interestngly though with now close on 70 mods, it does not happen so much!

The only thing that cleared the bug is to reload the save.its a pain.

Oh, okay, I'll keep on loading and reloading then, and cross my finger...

Yeah, I know it's buggy, played it on PS3 before, but was hoping console would help on PC. Oblivion sure was better, and Fallout 3 too. But had a hell of a time with New Vegas where it felt like avoiding bugs was the game's main quest!.. Waited a year after release to try it again.

Thanks again, Discovery. Really appreciate your sharing. Cheers!

@ Kingrayen: thanks for the warning but I never used that mod. I tend to be a little cautious too with mods that add new quests or spells... I hear mod spells don't do well with patch 1.6.

Hi, you have to wait 31 days for cells to fully reset in both exteriors and interiors. Its much longer that oblivion. There is a mod called No Boring Sleep Wait Time that makes this a much less tedious process. Also, you need to reset the cells while waiting in a cell flagged "never resets". The easiest one to access is Breezehome. Another one is the QA dev testing cell, you cant get to it by typing "coc qasmoke" (without quotations) in the console.

@ Madwizard25:

Thanks a lot for the tips, I didn't know about the 31 days - Beth blog only mentions the 10 days cycle! And didn't know either about waiting in a "never reset" cell, I thought waiting in exterior was enough. Will try the mod you recommend.

Just one more question though (not fully self-confident with console command): once you're in the testing cell, do you use the same command to return to the game, or another one, like "coc WhiterunBreezehome" for instance?

Many, many thanks again, I suddenly feel a little bit less stupid!.. ;)

@ Kingraven: forgot to tell you: if you have problems with a specific mod you should ask for help on the mod's thread, it is very likely that the author and other users will be more than willing to address your issue.

Late replying. Very. Anyway, saving, exiting to the main menu, and reloading always fixed this problem for me in Skyrim. Unfortunately, the same problem in Fallout 3 is immune to that particular cure. :wallbash:
