Dawson61
First off let me say that I am a Neanderthal when it comes to technology and modding! I love New Vegas and have been playing since it came out.It just has that special something. After several years I felt it was time to add that something extra and discovered modds.Afterwatching many youtube vids on modded games which are totally amazing I have been playing with some modds with limited success. The more I watch the more confused I get.One constant though seems to be not to put New Vegas in to program folder but into one such as games. As of right now mine is installedin the program 86 folder. Can I just click and drag the whole Steam folder over to games and if I do will Vortex find the new location?Should I also move vortex and Loot to the new file as well. Thanks in advance for your held and advice and to those creative people who build these modds Amazing work and Keep it up! P.S. Currently using a MSI GP63 Leopard 8RD
Stargazer09
Erm, I don't think that's a good idea.Better to delete than reinstall at a place of your choosing. Otherwise all kinds of nastiness and weirdness may result from a simple dragging and dropping.
dubiousintent
Vortex (to the best of my knowledge as someone who does not use it, but in common with most mod managers and tools like LOOT) relies upon something called the "registry entries" created when the game is installed to tell it where the game is located. When you "move" by "drag-n-drop" the game from one location to another, you "break" those registry entries because they no longer point to the correct location. The official Steam procedure for "moving" the game from one location to another calls for deleting and re-installing it. I recommend you read the entire "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to understand the differences between this game and others you may have experience with; especially if this is your first attempt to mod FNV or it's been more than a year since you last did so. In particular see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' and 'Save-game files' sections. Also see the "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article, which links to the official Steam procedure for moving games and provides some additional tips. -Dubious-
Dawson61
I think I am getting a handle on this and realize I have made some mistakes.I am going to remove the moddsand the game and start over. Not a big deal.Should I also remove and re-install steam out side of program folders as well?Asmy laptop has a D drive(marked as DATA,C drive marked as Windows) should I put everything related to steam and games into a new folder? Dawson61I have read here in the forums that there are instructions at Steam on how and what to move. Steam made the instructions available when they were informed about the need to install the game in a location other than "Program Files". I don't know how to find the instructions since I do not and will not use Steam.

Stargazer09
Should I also remove and re-install steam out side of program folders as well? That is not necessary, but there's no down side (that I'm aware of) if you do so. I too have done this, as I have a SSD as my boot drive, and Windows being the space hog that it is I've been forced to install all non-essential programs to a second hard drive in order to conserve space on C:.
