GOTHIC 2

The Addon is great, I would buy it, if I were you, as soon as it comes out in English. And I am also a veteran from Gothic I :D like Morgoth. Grafics may be a little blocky, but the landscapes are far more detailed than in Morrowind. There it was sometimes even boring, because everything looked a little the same. This is not the case in the Gothic-games. And of course the realism factor is much higher. Just what difference it makes when people acctually talk! In Morrowind there is almost no speech, in Gothic everyone is speaking. And they even make gestures, walk around, work, go to sleep, eat, wash their faces, talk to eachothers, react to the player (in the slums and at the mercenary-farm people like to watch fights and encourage the fighters with shouts like "This was a bad one!" or "That must have hurt!" or "Get him!"). It is also cool that you can learn how to make your own weapons and how to take things like furs, claws and teeth from animals (makes great money).

And concerning the Addon: The game is much more difficult, skills require more Learning points (so can't just learn everything but must choose), weapons require more strength or dexterity to wear them and some now give bonuses. There are also some new monsters, a whole new landscape, new quests inside the classic parts and some great new spells (you must try out "cry of the dead")

I ordered Sacred from the net and have got the demo until it arrives..

My views? Get it!!

Scared is brilliant. It is supposedly similar to Diablo 2, however, I have never played D2. Sacred just seems brilliant in the demo at least. The main quest involves joining the Emporers army to fight off orcs.. and guess what? Yes, there are horses :)

I just cannot wait until my copy arrives...

Absolutely. Single player is nice, but online is better, albeit buggy at the moment, but today they will release the patch for the English version, so, I'll have some fun tonight.

To be able to put several special abilities in a combo is great.

No, it's because PB has the better programmers :D No, just joking. Gothic's areas aren't that large as the areas of Morrowind. And when you go into a house or dungeon or whatever, this is still on the same map. The only place where it's loading is when you go into the mine valley, this is a different map. And when you got the addon, then it's loading when you go through the big portal and to the other side of the mountains.

Anyone notice that there is a sound bite from Daggerfall in Gothic 2. It's when you're around creepy/haunted places... like a high-pitched moan. I'm sure it's the exact bite since I logged a couple of years in Daggerfall.

I haven't played FarCry yet, so I can't tell. But normally I don't really like Action-Games, the only ones I liked were Unreal and Half-Life. And of course Thief, the best game ever made. Hopefully PB (Pyranha Bytes) make a great job with Gothic 3. It is said that it will take place on the continent, in the land of Myrtana. Can you believe it, a whole continent, not just an island! Morrowind is nothing compared to that! And they said that the graphics are going to be better than Half-Life 2 in an interview! Imagine, graphics better than Half-Life 2! They are using a core engine and modifying it for their purposes. What core engine, they didn't say yet. Gothic 3 is scheduled for the autumn 2005. And of course I have high expectations from Warren Spector and his Thief 3. He has to live up to a great legacy, the legacy of legendary Looking Glass.

  • 2 years later...
Gothic is the best frp game ever. Too bad that the Germans are doing it beacuse then you have to wait for them to translate it into English. The game is better that any Elder Scroll, Fable or any other frp.

Er... this thread is over two years old. Please pay attention to the date of the last post in a thread before posting, as thread necromancy is against the rules (unless your post adds something big that will revive the discussion). Thanks.
