charwo
OK, Having gotten the GECK, and being a third of the way through the Main Quest line, it has become very obvious to me what I am enjoying about my heavily modded Fallout 3 experience. And I want to talk about that. But first, I'm going to get Uncle's 'One More Thing' speech out of the way right now: How does one modify the water radiation thing? And I mean both sides. I'm playing FWE and the rads are jacked so high that I got really bad radiation poisoning drinking water in Tranquility Lane. That's just not right. Additionally, I don't like the concept of Irradiated Water as implemented in Fallout 3. But it gets tricky when I tell people what I want to do. In the spirit of Project Purity and the poisonousness of the Allegheny River in the Pitt, I can justify the horrific rads in the Allegheny and the Potomac. However, universal rads in water I don't like, because not nearly enough of it makes since. The Pitt's industry justifies their rad problem, and given how a nuclear meltdown of a major power plant way upstream in the Potomac watershed, contaminating the river system in the weeks after the exchange of October 23, 2077 makes sense on every level. Not to mention, James telling TLW that unraidated water is difficult to find but not impossible, but clean water just doesn't happen. In light of these, I would like to modify the water radiation levels so that places like most (but not all) of the Capital Wasteland still has rads when you drink it, but not when you swim in it. Point Lookout I want to get rid of radioactive water in it's entirety because frankly, I don't think it fits. How would I do this? I know it can be done, but I'm not sure how, especially in a way that will completely trump the mods I've put in place. Also, where do I go in the GECK to find perk numbers? Specifically I want some of the perks offered by FWE that I don't think should be split into 3 ranks. Or Advanced Power Armor training, which I don't mind having to be earned, I just don't want to pay for it as a level up perk. I've already had some major headaches doing so. And then there's time. My LW has been a human tornado, destroying anything in her path, setting innumerable wrongs right and generally decimating the forces of evil. And that's OK, that's awesome. But I want to slow the pace down. But I'm not talking about changing the time progression scale. In the first two Fallouts you could solve any town's problems in a day or two. But travel was your biggest time consumer, because it was an overhead map that wasn't scaled to anything else. It took you a good two weeks to walk from the Den to Vault City, and that deliberate slowing of heroic daring do added realism. In the last game I was playing, I would go back and forth between Point Lookout and Washington (one of the mods made it a 30 day trip, I think it was a mod?) to slow down everything and have the game finish by Christmas 2077. Are there mods or fixes to this? Now, onto the main event! As a rule, I like the clothing and armor that is given (except raider armor, which suck) but I want more. Specifically, I got the Winterized T-51b Armor very early in the game, which does a lot to justify my LW being a nigh on-unstoppable killing machine (Operation Anchorage Combat Training + fresh T-51b Power armor + Elite Pristine Assault Rifles = Unfair Advantage AND justified trope. That is how it should be). Problem is, there's not really a reason for her to ever step out of the power armor. Now, there's lots of different clothes to play with, but there's still nothing that looks as awesome or does as much as the Winterized T51b. Given there are no light/no armor perks in Fallout 3, I want to bend the rules to make it worth my while to have the LW wear something else. I have some ideas, and I want to bounce them around: First, is there a mod that will allow me to in game build clothes with different bonuses? IC, nothing's going to replace the power armor for hostile territory, but building a custom suit with many, many bonuses, would make for a reason to step out of it, at least in friendly settlements. In basic concept, build a custom variant of something (probably a Vault Lab Coat as my LW is hero scientist) with the bonuses of the Surgeon's Coat, the Roving Trader's outfit and the Rob Co repairman jumpsuit, creating an item that is far more flexible. While I don't have a problem just building it in GECK and hand waving the process, I'd prefer something more IC and elegant, mostly to keep my God-moding tendencies in check. The other is a nuanced criticism of how outfits work. Head Gear versus Glasses versus masks are awesome, wouldn't change it for the world. But one thing I desperately miss from Morrowind was the ad hoc clothing arrangements one could assemble. With mods, it could be incredible: Jeans from one mod, Taloner Jacket from another, backpack and holstered steampunk gun on the shoulders, with another's pirate boots, and then this Lara Croft like adult pigtails with tinted glasses head piece! The result was MAGNIFICENT! And it don't work quite that way in Fallout 3. There are some mods that do this to a degree, but I'm finding it not enough. I'd like to be able to build my own arrangements, probably just for the character. And I have some valid criticisms: There are parts of an outfit I like (such as the lab coat from the scientist outfit or the boots from the hoodie version of wastelander gear) but things I don't like in the same (the tieless female version of the science outfit and the hoodie and pants of the wastelander gear). In addition, a lot of the pre war female clothing I can't really use immersively because high heels are drastically inappropriate for Wasteland travel and the dresses don't make much sense either in the same. The women in Tranquility Lane and Rivet City more than make sense wearing 50s style June Clever get up make sense because they aren't roughing it. And, as I have observed things, I don't even like the way the Vault Lab Coat looks on my character. It doesn't look like the combo it's supposed to be. I want to build a Vault Lab Coat: but I want it to be a Vault 101 jumpsuit overlaid with a white Lab Coat from the Science outfit. And given all the jacket mods, I've seen, this can be done in theory, in fact if the layering was done right, I might be able to make it in the GECK myself. Maybe. As a rule, I have no complaints on post-war clothes and armor (except raider armor which I think is justified. I think). And I have no problem with the male pre-war attire at all, except the open tie design of the business suits which drive me nuts (the the Science outfit avoids in male characters). Female pre-war clothing are genre appropriate and well designed, but their completely inappropriate for adventuring in the hostile post apocalyptia. The Business Suits come closest, except: A. Not having clean versions (they look great otherwise), B. having loose ties, which again drive me totally batshit and C. having high heels. I would complain less about the other female pre-war clothing except I am very, VERY highly aware that there are functional feminine 50s clothing alternatives that were not included. The most basic fix is stupidly simple: have female Vault Boots (classy, but with a practical elevated chunky heel) as a an overlapping item that when equipped will replace the heels on the prewar clothes with the boots. This would work best with the Business suits, but could be well at least with the blue Casual Wear Dress too. And as a bonus, the black gloves from the Vault Lab Coat being equipable on any set. That would be sweet! And female clothing drives me nuts, for a couple of reasons, in just about all games. Most, but not all of the female clothing mods are inappropriate for play. I saw a mod with beautiful, BREATHTAKING ballroom gowns! And if there's a mod where there's a dance at Tenpenny Tower, it's totally awesome. But, TLW isn't going to be killing a deathclaw in one. Unless it's one of those battle ballgowns I sometimes see in anime....which if designed well and with sanity could be awesome beyond measure. But that's a different thing. The other is that a lot of the other clothes turn women into eye candy. Which is cool...to a point. I just want a man-candy mod to go with it. Fair's fair right? But, these clothing mods do not fit either the psuedo-50s aesthetics of the pre-war world nor the needs and realities of the post-war period. To site one example: there will be in stilettos for traveling women, I promise you that. In addition, nobody in the 50s believed in exposed tummies. Even bathing suits of the era were onezies. There's not way to get around that. So this last part is broken into three basic questions that needed elaboration. And these three questions are: 1. Can I haz Hero Sceintist wearz for my lady LW?2. Can I haz more 50s female wearz for the ladies?3. Can I haz modular wearz or tellems me how in GECK? On reflection Cheeseburger loving cats have horrible grammar, but they get noticed, and hopefully the same will apply to this thread. Any help, on any given part would be totally awesome. Thank you. M48A5
For modular clothing, see Tailor Maid. You will have to google for the location. For a full wardrobe, see Anthony Ling, http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/17631 .Don't know any Hero Scientist wear. FYI, there were two piece bathing suits and halter tops in the '40's onward. charwo
What you said is true, and still doesn't negate my point. But I will concede I was partially wrong about swimwear. That said, what I was thinking for the Hero Scientist look would be the following: Custom Vault Lab Coat I talked aboutLucky Shades Sheriff's Hat (makes since as she is a Regulator) Anything that says 'I am a woman of science, and I use my science to save mankind.' A Lab Coat and a large automatic weapon are a good start, but I'm very open to more. As is MOAR.
M48A5
You should try to find "Tailor Maid". It is not available on the nexus and I can't post a link. However, it provides individual pieces of clothing that can be mix and match.

M48A5
What that means is that according to the Nexus, you are not signed in at the download section or you are underage.
charwo
See, I could understand the whole not being logged in except that when I do go to log in, I hit the button and the page refreshes, all my info is still there and nothing has happened. As for being underage, I'm 29, my birthday was asked of me to register. Now, naturally that means I'm not yet old enough to view Ultraporn, but if Ling's mod is ultraporn quality, well, it might be too epic for me. M48A5
I can't understand what the problem could be unless you have some unique characters in your password. I have no trouble at all with logging in. I am using IE9 and not google. This is the page you should be logging in on. http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/
