blakeasuar
PROBLEMSo I've installed Oblivion GOTY Edition plus shivering isles, and the official mods. And I have a problem where when I go so far underwater, I see a huge chunk of the sky and its VERY distracting. THINGS IVE DONE TO TRY AND FIX THE PROBLEM (This will be updated as well)1. Deleting the .ini file so that oblivion would restore the settings to their defaults. 2. Disabling my mods.3. Uninstalling Oblivion then reinstalling it, with no mods or expansions.4. Installed the UOP5. Changed the uGridstoLoad setting (Was a major framerate killer and i couldnt go anywhere past 11, without oblivion crashing) UPDATED July 20 When I swim further off to the side like i said, and the black square seemed to load more and the previous area i was in would dissapear, I figured that I might have been having some sort of rendering problem where the render distance for my water was shorter than my distance for land and other objects. I play with all my settings on high and have absolutely no graphical glitches, I keep all my water reflections on and the water resolution at its highest, Nothing looks weird at all except for that black square of course. BUT. I did try messing with the 'uGridstoLoad' section of the .ini file and it seems to make the water look a bit better, by that i mean the black square stretches further out when im under water but i can still see chunks of the sky and its very annoying. PLUS, surely you all know that when you change the uGridstoLoad option in the .ini file that you get tons of graphical issues, some notable ones being your water surface reflections are all kinds of screwed up, itll be reflecting stuff thats not there or itll be completely opaque in that area. And its just a major framerate killer but it renders more around you and gets rid of that blurred terrain in the distance. So maybe there's something similar to the uGridstoLoad function but it only applies to what you see underwater? That's the only logical thing i can think of... UPDATED July 19 So after playing around with this some more, I learned that it places me underneath a largle black square that seems to load the farther i swim off in one direction torwards one side of the square. hopefully that helps a bit.. SPECS:Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E6550 @2.33GHz 2.33GHzInstalled RAM: 4.00 GBWindows 7 Home Premium 32-bitNVIDIA GeForce 210 1024mb If I'm missing something in the specs list please let me know, I'm new to forums and things of that nature. I've screencapped the problem using FRAPS, so hopefully that helps too, Beware of small resolution, though if I need to ill increase it for a better view. Ill keep messing with settings in the .ini file and post updates, so check those often please! Edited July 20, 2012 by blakeasuar

HeyYou
Is it always there when you are under water, or, does it show up after you pass a specific depth?
blakeasuar
Is it always there when you are under water, or, does it show up after you pass a specific depth? I think it's always there. I tried starting from the surface of the water, and as I slowly go deeper I can see the sky start to appear. Not like it would where its rendering as i'm going down. Another thing I noticed is I don't see it as much when i go underneath the water during the day. If I didn't explain any of that well ill record it for you if you wish haha
HeyYou
Look in your oblivion.ini, in My Game\Oblivion. Find the setting FVerticalLODBias (or something like that.) What is that set to?

I'll assume youre refering to "fLODLandVerticalBias" which is set to 0.0000
HeyYou
Yep, that was it. :D Try setting it to -512, and see if that makes any difference.
