Copyright Issues

listen up..

morroblivion is not agianst the rules.. i think that maybe bethesda would shut down their homepage then..

I rather suggest you take a good look at the assets, and especially the End-User License Agreement.

It IS against the license agreement. You may not take property of Morrowind on to Oblivion. It's to protect the copyright that the creator made. If you disagree, look at the EULA.

Morroblivion was a specific case of violation of a specific part of the EULA. Most mods that involve crosspollination from other fictional universes are not. As Vagrant said, as long as you're creating custom content that RESEMBLES things from other sources rather than directly stealing meshes, textures, music, etc., and you're not profiting by it in any way nor claiming to have invented Sephiroth or Giger Aliens yourself, most companies will ignore you. You are promoting their products rather than harming their profits. Please note the ongoing existence of the Elric of Melnibone in Morrowind site and others like it. This is not piracy, nor is it anything like copying parts of games and giving them away any more than Star Wars fanfiction is the same as copying parts of the Star Wars movies and giving them away.

It's true that it is no longer nearly as easy for works to fall into the public domain as it once was; the heirs of Tolkien and Bram Stoker, for example, have been quite quick to defend and reregister copyrights of the original works (if I have my facts straight). Fortunately there are also many incredible people who offer their work to the public as free or open source content, so free resources really are not scarce online.

Btw theres a game players play on makers of mods they dislike these days called "mass report the modder". They twist readmes to say something else, start rumours, then send a quote to beth so beth see the flamer version and believe it and end up investigating the mod maker for the crime of making mods.

Fortunately beth may buy the initial report but they at least investigate things properly and when they do they will look at your docs and your disclaimer to see what it says.

If it is air tight and leaves no room for misinterpretation, you will be fine. If it can be twisted, you get in to trouble.

So make sure you write a good disclaimer to over your own ass from those kiddies games.

Sorry for taking so long to respond...I sleep in the day..and no, I'm not a goth or a vampire.

For the last 4 posts and their authors..thanks.

Giskadurk, there's really a group that do that? Geez. Doesn't surprise me at all. There's a lot of people that would love to make ALL video games out as THE BAD GUY. These liberals do this from time to time. They don't want to admit there's something wrong with parents, schools, their own liberal laws etc. so they make an entertainment as the culprit. Comic books in the 50's(this is when the Comics Code Authority was created due to the book "Seduction of the Innocent) were the culprit then. Television was blamed in the 60's and 70's along with tobacco, candy or whatever else they could think of.

Now they're moving on to Video Games and will stop at nothing to make them out as evil. Want to pay a video game tax? Me neither, but let these ultra libs have their way and it'll happen. Want all games to be Mario clones? Me neither, but let these ultra libs have their way and that'll happen.

It's all examples of "big government". It's not enough they're already into everything, they want the whole enchilada.

My post on copyright issues wasn't meant to blame anyone or hurt anyone's ambitions, it was to warn and protect you from trouble.

easy, Simon..they're putting themselves in danger of a lawsuit by not caring what happens if they do it. They probably feel if they go to smaller sites, then they will avoid notice.

yeah, I'm glad they were reported, I'd just noticed the guy uploading right after they appeared, so I figured I was the first to notice...I was wrong.

You might want to see this (dont know how true it is)

Found it on MorrOblivion dot com

--------------------------------------------------------

Why don't quests work?

As I said above, Morroblivion is currently in beta and quests and dialogue do not work yet. As of now, you can't do much more than explore the land and cities, and kill creatures and stuff. Quests are scheduled to be added eventually somehow.

Wasn't Morroblivion shut down by Bethesda?

Morroblivion was only shut down on the official forums, and hosting of it on TES Nexus was taken down at Bethesda's request, due to some apparent licensing issues with using textures from Morrowind in Oblivion. Work on the project is still going on, however.
