Baxinator
Hi, I'm brand new to modding. Been playing Skyrim since 2013 but only recently decided to start modding it. I've started with graphics mods, and I've found a link which I believe has some good recommendations (Will post it below). Now, my query is I never bothered to upgrade to SE- I still have the original. The link I've found is mostly made up of mods that I believe require special edition to run, but I am unsure. Will I be able to run these mods on the original, or do I need to upgrade? I'm probably the millionth person to ask this sort of question, so any help will be appreciated. https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/11/01/best-skyrim-mods-on-pc/3/
TheGreatFalro
That article is odd; it has mods that are only for Oldrim (as we like to call it), some only for the SE, and some for both. Those that support both have a "Special Edition" link below them, and the Oldrim version can be found by clicking on their names. Most of them support both, it seems. As to your main question, mods that are for the Special Edition will not work on Oldrim. However, most mods for Oldrim can be converted to work in SE. I'd say if you have all the DLC for Oldrim, then there's not much point in getting the SE right now. But if you don't have all the DLC, or there's a mod for SE you really want to use, or the SE goes for cheap, then I'd say go for it. The SE is, in general, more stable than Oldrim, but it's still being updated, so some mods might break when it does.
