Alduins role and purpose

Alduin is a bad-ass evil Dragon, hell bent on ruleing the land-mass known as Tamriel.

I gathered that he is regarded as the most powerful Dragon and also first born of Akatosh.

But does this mean that Alduin and the rest of the Dov are Demi-Aedric in origin? They live immensly long lives e.g. Parthunaax is proof of this as having been living through the 4 ages, the 1st Age I hear is over 2 thousand years and the second about 800 years...

He is pretty old and it shows...

Anyhoo... what is Alduin exactly? He has the means to go to Soverngard, a realm of Atherius for the Nordic afterlife... does this enforce the fact that he and Dragons are Aedric beings of some sort despite thier seemly mortality witnessed ingame..

You cant kill Alduin as you would a normal dragon and have to resort to ancient and effective magic and also you only get to "kill" him in Soverngard.

How, if anyone knows, would Alduin stand up to a Daedric Prince?

Alduin is essentially the harbinger of the end times for Tamriel.

He's Akatosh's first born son, or even the nordic version of Akatosh himself. His job is to burn away the old world to make way for the new world.

He and his servants are Aedric spirits. And in-game when you kill one of them, they don't actually die, basically all you destroy is their physical shell, the only way to kill one is to use the dragonrend shout on them.

Or Dofahkiin absorving their souls.

Alduin is real, and he ernt Akatosh!

I don't care how ridiculous that book is, it's truth, 'ammit.

Huntsman - Dragonrend does not even HARM a dragon. It only depresses them so badly that they have to land, essentially.

Dragons die when they get smacked by a sword too many times. However, Alduin is able to resurrect it UNLESS its soul was absorbed by the Dragonborn. He's a living Dragon Soul Gem.

Alduin likely has a way to access Sovengarde because yes, he's the direct son of Akatosh, a powerful Aedra.

Alduin would probably stalemate a Daedric prince. The Champion of Cyrodiil was able to beat a Daedric Prince (Jyggalag) into submission.

Dragonrend is a shout that was designed to kill dragons. The only reason it doesn't kill them in-game is most likely because it's only a short burst of the effect.

Dragons can't specifically die from any kind of weapons or magic. Their physical shell gets destroyed and that's about it. Only the Dragonborn can actually completely destroy a dragon by absorbing it's soul, which is why they fear him so much.

A dragon.

He has the means to go to Soverngard, a realm of Atherius for the Nordic afterlife... does this ...?

Dovahkiin also has the ability to enter Sovngarde, so it obviously means nothing.

You can't kill Alduin in Nirn for Some Unknown Reason (most likely known only to Sheogorath).

Probably not, but it's a moot point since his fate is to confront the Dovahkiin at the "End of Time."

Hopefully not.

It wouldn't be interesting to have him as the big bad again.

He's not that smart, he's not very good at planning, and he just isn't that interesting enough to be a recurring villain for the elder scrolls series.

Say if the next game was set in Elsweyr, I'd want the big bad to be a insanely powerful general of the warrior tribe who thinks he's the promised Mane.

Alduin is a powerful dragon who uses the souls of the dead in Sovngarde as a power source. Once you defeat him in Skyrim, he retreats through the portal to power up but of course you track him down and stop him doing that. I don't understand why the dead heroes in Sovngarde didn't just stop him gathering those souls in the first place though.
