Pickpocketing mechanics

There is a minimum 5% chance of success, at least according to the vanilla formula used. See these two threads:

* How does pickpocketing work?

* Why is it so hard to pickpocket?

You might want to try mods like:

* Pickpocket Overhaul: Overhauls the pickpocket calculations to take target perception and item weight into account, along with uncapping the success chance and nerfing the impact of item value. (This is the solution the original author who broke down the formula problem details, says he was looking for.)

* Easy Unlocking - Easy Hacking - Guaranteed Pick Pocket: Lets you pick any pocket without failing (100% Chance at any sneak skill level).

(This literally took me the time of a commercial break to look up on the web.)

Well, excuse me for asking a question on a forum where it's expected that people would ask questions.

That response sounds "entitled" and "peevish". If it wasn't your intent, please learn to use emoticons.

Apparently I was being too subtle, so I'll be more blunt. More than two hours elapsed between your question and my response. (It could have easily gone 24 hours.) The thrust of my parenthetical comment was that with a minimum of effort you could have dug out the same information for yourself in mere minutes. (All I did was "Advanced Search" Google on "any of these words": 'fnv "fo:nv" "fo.nv" "fallout new vegas"' (which is my standard for FNV questions), combined with "pickpocket". If you need help with your "google-fu", just ask.)

I do not begrudge anyone my time in answering questions. I'm a volunteer and fully aware that for many people the forum is a (relatively) quick way to obtain answers. But there is a difference between "I don't understand and need help" and "I didn't even try to look up the answer myself". The latter eventually get ignored as "too lazy and annoying".

"Volunteer" means "I don't have to put up with attitudes." (There is an "ignore" button on your profile for that.) But I do try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Hence this reply.
