Hi,

Being mesmerised by the youtube mods shows I am ready to dip my toes into actually buying and playing Skyrim.

Played the earlier series years ago and again on steam more recently..

my query is,

should i buy the Steam version or opt for the EB Games boxed version instead to avoid mod compatibility issues?

With a steam site purchase it's always backed up online, with a hard disc, they scratch easily or get lost and you don't know what patch was on the disc when purchased!..

I paid $59 Canadian at best buy for the DVD disc game

All versions of the game require Steam.

But the boxed version should be cheaper. on Steam nearly all games are overprized.

Get the boxed version. looks better on a shelf at home then just a small note inside Steam :D

With the boxed version you shouldn't have to undergo the long download times getting it through Steam. It will still install within Steam and Steam will update it for you to the latest version. Other than that the two versions are exactly the same as far as mods go.

Disc, loosing or scratching the disc only happens if you´r really clumsy or don´t care how to treat you cd properly. If you buy through steam it will take ages to download and then take ages to install, with the disc it takes 15 minutes. Oce installed in your steam account if you loose the disc you can download the game from steam to install it if needed. Edited by scot

Depends how and when you buy certain games. New games are pretty much the same price, but with Steam, I never get dinged for taxes or have to pay delivery. Downloading may be an issue if you have a slow connection, but in my case, I use the fibre optic internet connection at work, then easily transfer the game to my home PC.

Pitfall with steam is that you may not be able to play if you can't connect to their servers, unless you previously went into offline mode.

Er, no. More like the other way around. They had Sky for around 25 USD a week ago on Steam. Try finding that deal anywhere else.
