How to edit spell projectile nifs and textures.

Hi, I'm having a problem with editing projectiles for spells.

 

 

Lets say I want to create a 'dark' themed fireball projectile.

 

I extract the vanilla fire textures and edit the .dds files with Paint.net to change the colour to be more 'shadow' themed. I also repeat this for the gradient texture.

 

I then extract the fireball nif and open it in NifSkope. Then I reassign each shape's texture path to my new custom textures. Also, I change the emitted light colour and save.

 

However, when I fire the new custom spell with the altered effect in game, the projectile looks glitched. The Fireball looks like an opaque glowing cylinder.

 

 

I don't know where I went wrong, or what I could have done that resulted in this bizarre effect.

 

If anyone knows what's happened, please advise.
