Everytime I do a bash (by holding down block, then hitting the attack button) it staggers my opponent, regardless of whether I'm using a 2-handed sword or a shield. No power bash required, just a regular bash.

 

Is this normal? It makes 1v1 combat pretty trivial, I just bash, attack, bash, attack, and it's dead.

 

If this is normal, is there a mod that nerfs bash and doesn't give a guaranteed stagger? I couldn't find one in a basic search.

Having gone through all the stagger, bash, and block related game settings and finding no obvious setting that controls the stagger chance, it appears that 100% stagger from bashing is intended. I too have experienced consistent staggering as you have with regular bashing, in fact it has been a rather cheap way of dealing with the otherwise clunky combat.

 

I'm thinking a way to solve that is to make a perk that enforces stagger chance when using a bash attack.

I have learned this the hard way too. After extensive editing with SSEdit, cause I want Meeko and Vigilance to function like "un-stagger-able" decoys, I have confirmed that there is no way to remove the stagger from a block bash. I have made my hounds immune to all other forms of stagger EXCEPT stagger from a block bash. I have yet to find a workaround, the Nine be kind.
