Freeze/FPS drops over time

Hey,

 

I installed "a few" mods and it works great, but when I explore the outside for a bit, I start having my fps drop to 0 for 2-3seconds (so, a freeze basically, but the music,speach,sounds... don't get interrupted and continue normally, even though the game "pause" during the freeze).

 

It starts perfectly, then as I move on I start getting a freeze every 30s, then after 2 more minutes every 15s, then 10, 5, 3... If I try to keep on playing I can even end up having a 20s freeze for every second the game "move". >_<

 

I can explore a big interior dungeon for hours without problem, this only happens outside, and I THINK it only happens if I move/explore (load more terrains?), I can run around a small area outside for as long as I want without problem, apparently.

Only thing I can think is have you tried running it fullscreen?

 

I had this issue with another game when I ran it in window mode.

Just tried in fullscreen mode (and with SKSE off but unwillingly, I used the wrong exe :P) and the problem is still here. I was in a dungeon so it was fine for a long time, but as soon as I got out I started getting freezes every 5s right away.

 

One thing I forgot to mention is that, when the freezes occur, I can see both my CPU and GPU usage drop to 0-20% for the duration of the freeze.

Hello Dino29:

 

You have High-Res textures and Moster Mods installed along with some beautification mod that changes your character, a combination of these may be the issue. Whats the configuration of your computer? Skyrim runs with a combination of CPU & GPU, the spawns are especially handled by CPU. I do get a momentary FPS drop in wilderness, thats how I know that there is a spawn happened nearby. Do not disable SKSE, it is helpful for good running of the game.

 

I would also suggest you to follow the below mod for a good texture pack rather tahn running multiple different texture packs:

Thanks! I'll try those tomorrow.

Updated my first post with my specs : [email protected], GTX 260 (890MB), 4GB DDR2

(It seems like neither the GPU nor the CPU are "working" during the freeze, <20% load, though it might just be a bug)

 

Also, I did a few more tests and actually, even though the freezing start occuring when I explore, once they start, the freezes will keep on occuring even if I stay in the same place, just by turning my head around or fighting an enemy (so maybe the problem doesn't actually occur when the game load new stuff, but because there's too much stuff loaded at once or something?)

Apart from the above, I have the texture pack in which many of the below mod files have been combined:

I have also tried Static Mesh Improvement Mod without any issues (removed it because it did not look good with my Hi-res settings from texture pack)

 

You may be right that there may be some other issue with the freeze.

 

Enabling papyrus scripting may be helpful ( though I have not tried that yet and not sure on how to read or infere the papyrus logs).

 

I have Skyrim to latest update (1.7) and also the unofficial skyrim patch and have correct load order set with Wrye bash (Skyrim is installed outside of Program files for Wrye Bash), all these address a lot of bugs and save files are very light and not bloated.

 

Also, while adding or removing, I follow a standard practice:

 

1) Make a fresh save in an interior where there is a bed to sleep on (Breeze home is the best unless you have modified it with a mod that changes the features), autosaves and oversriting of old saves don't count.

2) get out of skyrim and add/remove mods

3) Log back to skyrim and make a fresh save again.

Note: Mods that alter leveled lists may cause issues if uninstalled in middle of a game.

Reinstalled the game, used Texture Combiner to combine HD2K, SHD, SRO and Flora Overhaul (1024k versions for all, I was using 2k SRO before). Problem is still there. :(

I'll try to look into Papyrus or play with some mods disabled to try to pinpoint the one causing the problem... assuming it IS caused by one mod.
