thumbincubation
Does anyone know how to get the Dwarven ballista to function as a mounted crossbow, for the player and/or followers to use from fortifications? The only thing I remember seeing in the vanilla game is a lever to fire them, but no way to aim them.
cumbrianlad
Hello, I'm just replying to let you know people read things. I don't know how to do this but next time I'm in CK, I'll take a look at them and see if I can work anything out. From what I recall, when you insert them, they have their angles fixed. I'm guessing that you could add a script to alter their angles and attach it to a set of levers (right and left lever and up and down lever) and the player could rotate them to suit, then pull a lever to fire them. DarkFox127 wrote a script that's free to use for animating static items. His script (which I've used and works fine) includes an option to rotate the item whilst moving. I'm wondering if you could make each rotation lever turn the ballista by, say one degree, so that the player pulls the lever and the ballista turns to suit. when the player has it aimed, they pull the fire lever. The only issue I can see with this is that the script will only handle moving one object, whereas the ballista has two parts, namely the base and the ballista itself. so, when the player moves the ballista around, the base no longer lines up with it. I don't know if this helps, but at the moment its all I can think of. It could work with fixed ballista emplacements but wouldn't apply to a player held weapon. thumbincubation
Thank you. I wasn't sure if it could even be done. I'll check out that script. So far, I've only used them as static decoration in a personal use mod, but I kind of like the idea of artillery in game.
cumbrianlad
No problem. here's the link... You'll just need to leave the translate properties alone and alter the rotate properties and see how it looks. It should rotate realistically enough because the insertion point is right at the base of the ballista from what I recall.
thumbincubation
That is outstanding. If I ever get to enjoy those mythical things again...what are they called? Days off...I plan to try to arm up some ships. Skyrim needs a few destroyers.
cumbrianlad
I take it it works okay, then? I don't know where I'd be without darkfox127. That he writes such a good and useful script and then gives it away for anyone to use as long as they leave the credit in is great. Add to that he does a tutorial telling people how to use it. Super-star! I'd love to see those ballistas on a ship. Maybe you could place a pair of them in the game, so that the player 'sails' to an island and give them the option to blow up a host of enemies sitting on the dock? Or add a destructible wall on a building that is locked, requiring a key (which doesn't exist). The only way to get in for some cool loot it is to blow up the wall with a ballista! That would be fun. thumbincubation
Oh I haven't tried it yet. That will be something for days off, if I ever get to have those again. I'm in the stage of trying to figure out how I could do it, when I have the time to do it. I was saying the video is outstanding, and I thank you wholeheartedly for it. My intention is to outfit a ship with at least one catapult, possibly sized down to fit better, and a couple/few ballistas, with crew to operate them. Thus far, I've only ever been able to do static stuff, but an actual warship in Skyrim is what I'm hoping for. I'm thinking of the Japhet's Folly quest. Right now, there's a lot of shore bombardment while you're ashore, but not a single weapon on deck. O.o
cumbrianlad
Sounds really intriguing. All the best with it!
