SoulLimit Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Hi, I have just got and downloaded Dawnguard, and i want to update some of my mods to include some dawnguard changes as well, but every time i try to load the dawnguard master file in the creation kit, it jut gives me an error like "Unable to load strings", it then proceeds to crash. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks SoulLimit
Caithe Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Go to Documents\My Games\Skyrim\open Skyrim.ini and scroll down to [Archive]. Add Dawnguard.bsa to sResourceArchiveList2 like this sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa It's the SkyrimEditor.ini that needs to be changed. That's in Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim. Not the one in Documents/My Games. Editing that one doesn't seem to change anything. My bad. My friend said to someone he needed to add Dawnguard.bsa to sResourceArchiveList2, so I figured it would be in skyrim.ini. Turns out I was wrong. I'm very sorry. Edited August 4, 2012 by Caithe
SoulLimit Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 That does not work :( same error comes up.
nuska Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Didn't work for me either, keep getting the string error. E: found a fix for this - I opened the Dawnguard.BSA with a BSA unpacker and extracted the whole /strings/ folder to the Skyrim Data directory. Comes up with a ton of other errors but it loads now. Lorneos Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 It does not work, could you describe your the full changing? That would be nice....
SoulLimit Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 Go to the SkyrimEditor.ini in your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim" or equivalent folder, and make sure this line looks something like this in the [Archive] section:SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa. You need to make sure that Dawnguard.bsa is in there, as that is what will let you edit Dawnguard(although i still struggle as there is not any Scripts or Sources included for some reason with mine)

Turns out I was wrong. I'm very sorry. Think nothing of it. There are so many of those ini files. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to look for one to change and I find it and say "this must be it". And it's not. Before it's all over with, I"ll have changed every single ini file but the one I need to.
