Too much to Ask?

Honestly, is it too much to ask all the modders to include readme's with thier uploads?

I mean seriously, i've never been so annoyed...here's why.

Earlier today I was house hunting for new house mods. I downloaded 20 all together while I was browsing the site, thinking I would look through them again

after I was done and pick a few to try out....WRONG....Out of the 20 that I downloaded only 2, yes 2 came with readme's and ONLY 1 of those actually

gave the location of the house, the other was just useless backstory information and gave no details of the house whatsoever.

I've been modding and downloading mods since Morrowind and at least 98% ALWAYS include a readme. I mean do you people actually think that someone is just

going to come here, download 1 mod, and remember all the details about the mod from the description on the site? No most people are'nt going to do that. I will go out on a limb and say most people are like me and browse the site for a while, downloading mulitiple mods along the way, then filter through them later once you're done browsing and

downloading. So if you have say 20 or so mods downloaded you are'nt going to remember the details of all of them. Why would anyone install a house mod and say oh well I have no earthly idea where this house is located, maybe i'll just wonder around for hours and hours and maybe, just maybe i'll run into it one day. Yes, that's absurd...

And it's also equally absurd to upload a mod, especially a house mod without a readme.......

Some modders add a how to install readme in the description area page of there mod, I always read it in case it depends on a outside script or additional program, I haven't downloaded any mods yet that depend on dragon script, but there's a example!..

SkyUI and I think the community uncapper depend on skse [script extender] owe some mods tell you to edit a line in your ini files too

I've also seen youtube install instructions in the mods description

Yes, I have also found this to be true. Certain un-named mods that have dependencies on other mods or specialized installation instructions have also been found to NOT have

readme's included. Then the authors wonder why people are posting negative comments with bug errors.

Still looking for a nice all around house mod, the 20+ that I downloaded the other day got deleted...sorry but i'm just not going to re-search all of them just to see description notes.

In my opinion mod packs uploaded without readme's are WORTHLESS. why would someone spend all that time creating something and not even include a simple readme

explaining thier work is beyond me....

I think it is because we modders quickly discover only a small - read that as TINY - percentage of users actually read them. I feel lucky to discover that someone even read the description beyond the first paragraph or so. And I put a lot of work into my description to draw attention to the important parts. So it is basically a waste of time to duplicate everything that is on the description page and delete all of the formatting to make it readable as text. That's probably why. With that said, I still include one.

I also attached a separate readme to the display page as Nexus providees that feature, but I don't knoiw that anyone ever read it. I can't remember the last time I updated it but nobody has ever commented about it.

And if you are looking for a good housemod, check out the Dovahkiin's Warehouse and Bedroom. The Warehouse is a warehouse with display but the bedroom is a mansion. Some people like it. I'm working on the armory expansion now.

It is irritating when readmes aren't in the downloads, I think it's mostly down to absent -mindedness. No offence to those who this would refer to, I just think it's standard practice if your going to dedicate yourself to modding...or uploading files on ANY site. It's fine to do a web page description but it's inconvenient for users to have to return to the page every time they want to check any details.

I completely disagree that only a "tiny" percentage of people read the descriptions or readme's. First of all why would someone download something if they dont even know what it is?

Of course they are going to read at least enough to know what they are downloading. In my opinion, including a readme with the mod is just as important as the mod itself. For instance I still have tons of Morrowind mods and Oblivion mods, some of which were downloaded over 10 years ago. If these mod packs did not come with readme's they

would be completely worthless now, otherwise how would I still know what they add or even anything at all about them without the readme.

Also a lot of people play through these games more than once, several times possibly with different combinations of mods each time. Once you download a mod the first time

the mod pack SHOULD come with everything you need to know about it included.

A mod pack without a readme is like giving someone a box full of miscellaneous parts without instructions on how to put it together or even telling you what it's suppossed to be

once it is put together. In other words....worthless....

And they need to name the readme file something that just readme.txt. I don't know haow many readmes get overwritten by another mod, changing the file's name to <modname> readme.txt would insure it doesn't disappear.
