Frittyblack
I just tried Vortex first time and it is not able to install few simple Skyrim SE mods, that worked flaweless with Wrye Bash. The problem is that it is not able to detect the folder structure, while Wrye bash had no problem with this.Eg Vortex fails when the mod folder is "mymodABC/mymod/Data..." , then it will not write the Data stuff into the games Data folder, but it will simply copy paste "mymod" next to the DAta folder. Also it has problems if the .esp or .esm files are not directly in the first folder, then the plugin is not regognized. After disabling all mods, the files are still in my game directory...So to make nearly all mods work with Vortex, I/the mod authors would have to adjust the folder structure for every single mod.In addtiion to this, several mods have optional content. In Wrye Bash I was able to select the ones I wanted to install. Vortex simply install everything?!Beside that I did not find out yet how to set the install and load order myself, but I'm sure this is somehow possible already...Since Wrye Bash and for sure all other mod managers are able to handle this, I wonder why Vortex can not?Newest Vortex version (downloaded today).Windows 10 64bitTrying to mod Skyrim SE, roughly ~60% of the mods faild.edit:in case it is important: I downloaded all those mods manually from nexus and extracted the zip files. Then I put those folders into the mods folder of Vortex.
AugustaCalidia
in case it is important: I downloaded all those mods manually from nexus and extracted the zip files. Then I put those folders into the mods folder of Vortex. Did you extract the mods and then place them in the Vortex Mod Staging Folder? If you did, of course your "installs" are going to fail because you haven't really installed them. You're going about this in the wrong way. Instead, download your mod archives and place the zipped files in the Vortex Downloads folder (not the Mod Staging Folder) for your particular game. Go to the mods page and install the mods from there. The expanded mods will then be placed automatically into the Mod Staging Folder. Enable, deploy, sort, and play your game. I've been using Vortex for a year now and have never experienced the problem you are describing except for one mod that was improperly packaged. rmm200
In your specific case, more than most, I highly recommend a short video tutorial. Gopher has a series I like: You are coming in from Wrye Bash - which is most unusual. Most new Vortex users come from NMM or MO 2. The change is not as great for them. Frittyblack
Thank you both :smile:Shortly after wrting this post I saw the tutorial videos and I feel Vortex is a very good choice, beside the folder structure problem. And I indeed also tested now what happens if simply put the zip files into the vortex-downloads folder and install it. When installing it Vortex removes unnecessary folders and orders everything the correct way, so here is the step I missed.Only problem is now I have ~100 mods already unpacked and deleted/cleared bin the zip files... Does this mean I have to pack them all again, to let Fortex unpack it? While 7zip can unzip many zip files at once and place them in a single folder each... I fear it can not zip many folders at once, while placing them in one zip each, right? This will be a lot of work =/What about additional content, called Sub-Packages?edit: -> ah I just installed one mod with subpackages the right way (with zip) and now I get a window to choose sub packages, great :smile:edit2:partly offtopic, but maybe not: Can the profiles of Vortex (and other modmanagers) be used to simplify installation of mods for users that don't want the hassle of setting up rules/groups/conflicts and such stuff? I just asked a question like this here: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7483636-presets-for-mods-like-mod-pack-without-including-mods/&do=findComment&comment=68544536
rmm200
You can't use Profiles the way you are thinking.Think of Profiles as overlapping sets. You can set up one as a common base, and then build others as additions to that base. You might have one Profile for Enderal, an a completely separate profile to play as a stealthy Assassin. Each has the mods specific to that profile. I run about 10 profiles on Skyrim SE.
Frittyblack
thanks.I just ran into another problem with the Flora Respawn Fix mod. There is a german translation mod for this https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/19714 , unfortunately it replaces the Plugin of this mod completely, because the .esp file has exactly the same name.Normaly I now would use all files from the original mod, but the esp from translation mod. So I looked at the Plugin page of Vortex, but it only shows one esp, not two. So I see no way to tell Vortex that it should load the translation after the original, since this is only possible for plugins not mods, right?edit:ah I think I just missed the popup on the right telling me there are conflicts. When I showed these I was able to define the load order...but although I now told it to load the translation after the original, it still says me that the translation would be redundant... This will be a lot of work =/ You're on the right track now. I'm glad that you have your mods properly installed and working. As for your ~100 unzipped mods, you'll have to rezip them, place them in the Downloads folder, and install them. Unfortunately, there's no quick way to do this. However, before you even place the mod archives in the Downloads folder, be sure to clean your game data folder by removing the files that were not properly installed. Perhaps Vortex Purge will work for some of them, but I suspect that you'll have to remove most, if not all, of these items manually.

Frittyblack
And one of my other mods (lets call it A) asked me via sub-package if I would like to install sth like a patch for mod B. I said yes and the mod was installed. Now after enabling the mods, I get a conflict message, that both mods do conflict. Normally I would expect that I now simply put the Patch at the end of the load order and everything is fine. But there is no Patch plugin. So I have to assume that the patch is within the installation of A ? If so, that would mean I have to load A after B. But B requires A. So what to do now ?!?
