maYuYang
Yes, Oblivion is my favourite game, but there's a story behind that: Some Weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that Project Zero 2(aka Fatal Frame 2) will remain my one and only no. 1 favourite game. After finishing BioShock, I decided to start Oblivion, for which I already installed some race Mods. So while playing it, I started to love the graphics, but hated parts of the gameplay, so I started to install more mods and even modded myself and this is the reason for my change of heart. The fact that I can change this game to my taste. Another reason is the world. I'm not referring to the lore world of tamriel, but to the world you can interact with. My 1st real RPG was FFVII(1st unreal was Parasite Eve). You may laugh or not, but I thought that the game ends with leaving Midgar! The fact that I was able to move on a world map then stunned me. That however was the only game for the next 7 or 8 years which was able to do that in this way. You may guess already, but when I played Oblivion and left that sewers the 1st time I was stunned again by the visual world and the fact that you really are able to go to that mountain you see in the distance(in older games, those were just a background picture). And finally: I'm by no means a narcist, but I love to play myself. So I always try to imagine that I'm the main character(which sometimes gets hilarious because of some scenes^^). In Oblivion(but only thanks to others and my modding) I'm able to recreate myself and really play the way I want. I didn't play any other game yet which allowed me that. I have to admit that I never played any other part of TES, even though I could buy Morrowind for funny 4pounds. I'm quite sure that game is also good, but atm I'm fully concentrating on Oblivion and it's modding and I can't imagine that Morrowind can offer me that in the same or better way(not to mention that I still have so many other games I installed but didn't play yet...). But I also have to say(write) this: Oblivion in default shape would never even become my no.3 favourite game simple because of the limitations it has while seemingly offering everything to make the player experience hers/his own advanture. And even with modding, this game does not come close to the emotional level of my former no.1 fav.(but I will maybe create a mod ^^.... And here we go again)
Varus Torvyn
Yeah, but I have another running neck-and-neck with it. "The Witcher Enhanced Edition". Two new full-blown quest adventures, the D'Jinni Adventure Editor, and you can't beat the quality of it's opening cinematic with Geralt in melee combat with the Striga. That cinematic (using motion-capture cameras) took over a year to engineer, and takes up .75 GB of disk space by itself.
Lainge
No, Gotta say it is a fantastic game. But my favourite game is Monster Hunter Freedom 2.
MnorJium
Unbelievable mods you can do potentially anything in this game. Even hours of fun just playing shivering isles and some of the odder mainstream quests in Oblivion - So yeah, this game is pretty much the most unique and widespread games ever, with variant types of gameplay, astonishing and very realistic scenery, and plenty of spastic glitches and chaotic physics to keep the game from getting too repetitive. I haven't played Morrowind, but the screenshots looked way worse than anything from Oblivion. In oblivion u can probably do anything u can do in Morrowind and more, so anyone considering Morrowind should just get Oblivion. (But idk, I haven't played Morrowind). MaraMyrrh
I would say it is my favorite game, my brothers got me into the Elder Scrolls with Morrowind when I was 7 or 8. Terrible graphics I would say right now xD Then I got out of that for a while until about a year or 2 ago, my brothers again introduced me to Oblivion and the Xox 360. I soon became an addict. deadnerzhul
Oblivion is definitely not my favorite game. The combat is anything but exciting, the storyline is so-so, the graphics are terrible compared to today's standards, and there are virtually no quests except for the guilds and the main quest. The only way to make it REALLY 'fun' is by modding it. So yeah. The only games that are so good that the only reason you would get mods for them is so they would be more aesthetically pleasing are Knights of the Old Republic and Fable/The Lost Chapters. hoots7
No, Oblivion is 2ndThe Thief series games are my favorite; the style, story, acting, (not graphics) cut sequences, game play & AI are outstanding. But if Scruggs or someone else makes more versions of The Thieves Arsenal It may be. Another reason is the world. I'm not referring to the lore world of tamriel, but to the world you can interact with.-- when I played Oblivion and left that sewers the 1st time I was stunned again by the visual world and the fact that you really are able to go to that mountain you see in the distance(in older games, those were just a background picture).Oblivion had the same affect on me too, I was amazed that I could just take off running where ever I wanted & discover things. But I also have to say(write) this: Oblivion in default shape would never even become my no.3 favourite game simple because of the limitations it has while seemingly offering everything to make the player experience hers/his own advanture.2nd that, well said
Thanodai
It's not my favorite game either. As Deadnerzhul said, the story line is so-so. Morrowind was so much more involved, and so much deeper. The graphics are pretty good, it's the physics and animations that needs to be re-worked. I do however enjoy Oblivion because of the endless mods we get to play with. Some of the quests that have been added are actually quite good, and very fun to play. Really, the mods are the only reason I still play Oblivion. -T-
