Jakryptonite
Am I the only one who realizes that Tiber Septim didn't unite the other provinces with his own power? He was no more powerful than the Dovakiinn, and regardless, if you had a legit force of 10,000 NPCs attacking you, you can't carry enough potions to stay alive, or deal enough damage for that matter. You'r done. The only reason why Tamriel was united was because Talos was able to use Numidium, the Brass God, created by the Dwemer, shortly before their dissemblance after tampering with the Heart of Lorkhan, which, by the way, was destroyed in the process. Another bonus, the power of magic has been dwindling on Nirn for a while now, so that leaves another question. Is that evening the playing field between the Elves and Humans, or is that just going to provide another weakness for the Empire? Now, we know that Talos is a god, as anyone who has played the Knights of the Nine DLC for Oblivion knows the power of Talos was what was missing out of the entire set. Now, it seems that even though he is a god, what if he is a "False God" like that of The Tribunal in Morrowind? What do you guys think? It would explain why the gods have allowed the Aldermeri Dominion to outlaw the worship of one of their own. Pentigan
In terms of uniting the provinces, it wasn't just raw individual power, mostly diplomatic power. However, remember that this is a game in which around 20 soldiers constitutes an army for invading a large city, a literal army by our terms backed up by a highly competent strategist and mages would most likely be a highly effective fighting force. Also, he isn't at the level the Tribunal in Morrowind are, the Tribunal stole their power through linking themselves to the Heart of Lokhan (which wasn't destroyed when the Dwemer disappeared, but banished from Nirn by the Neraverine during the events of Morrowind). Tiber Septim gained his due to highly extraordinary events which led to him ascending as a Divine proper. And Talos might actually be a little more powerful than people think, there's a stunning resemblance between the Prophet in Knights of the Nine and the last two descendants of the Septim line... Blackraptor31
The aedra are infact incredibly weak due to the betrayal of Lorkhan, the prince of Liberty during the creation of mundus. They are less powerful now than Daedric princes and have to move the world in subtle ways to keep it as it is. Akatosh couldn't stop Merhunes Dagon from opening his oblivion gates once the Dragonfires were unlit. Their solution to the dragon problem in Skyrim was to create a single mortal dragonborn. These are hardly the acts of all powerful deities. They simply are incapable of stopping the Aldmeri domion with a click of their fingers hence why they are "permitted" to outlaw Talos. That said, Auriel is a elvish god so maybe he is happy the Altmer are doing so well.
RighthandofSithis
Tiber did not unite Tamriel with pure armed force, neither did he purely do it with diplomacy. For example, he managed to defeat the Nords at Sancre Tor, which led them to ally themselves with him (after he demonstrated his use of the Th'um). This wasn;t a final victory, but after this battle he found a large portion of the Nords supported him (and those that didn't fell to him). He had also made an armistice with Morrowind, giving him control of Morrowind and the Numidium, while also allowing the Dunmer semi-independence. With the Numidium, he did indeed go on to crush the first Aldmeri Dominion. What you may not know is that he managed to conquer Hammerfell mostly by allying himself with the Forebears, and his legions proved to much for the spent Crown force. However, in the Battle of Hunding Bay, he defeated the Crown navy with the assistance of... A dragon... Nonetheless, this conquest didn't last for long, and the Crowns rebelled, and forced Tiber to negotiate a truce favorable to Hammerfell. And so you know I'm not making this up, im getting my info on this from the game TES Adventures: Redguard.
