Vortex: Load before vs load after

Coming in late here.

If there is no "inherent conflict" like between textures, order is irrelevant. They are just non-competing files on the disk.

A before B, B before A - result is the same. By the time the game looks at them, they are both there.

Install order as opposed to conflict resolution can be important. Some FOMOD installers require other mods to be there when they run. Patch selection, etc.

In FO 4, there's a mod called NoraSpouse. For this mod, there's a patch that allows Looksmenu changes to be applied to Nora and persist.

My--and the patch author's --problem is that Vortex keeps appropriately ordering the patch before the primary, because that's alphabetical, and there is no inherent conflict between the patch and the primary. Thus, I cannot resolve the conflict in favor of the patch because there is no conflict. Plugin order is appropriate, because the primary is an ESM.

Hmm, NoraSpouse v1.2 includes 3 files, esm + ba2 + readme, while Nora Spouse Companion Looksmenu Patch includes a single esp.

This means, where's no file conflicts and this means it's completely irrelevant which order these two mods comes relative to each others. Even in MO2 it doesn't matter if you drag-and-drop one of the mods above or below the other mod.

For plugins, ESM is correctly loaded before ESP and in addition ESP has the ESM as master.

So, unless you've forgotten to mention a 3rd. mod or something, the order these two mods are listed in Vortex is not the reason for either mod not working correctly.

Thank you.

As a user, I'm now out of ideas for how to let this patch work; while it does--by comments--work for MO and NMM users.

Oh well, not the first time I've found a unique-in-all-the-world bug.

[edit] I'm still thinking.

It's not that the patch doesn't work.

The patch does work; I'm able to change Nora's appearance, which we cannot do at all without the patch mod.

My problem is that the changes do not persist through a load screen; her face reverts to the original. Which is why I think that loading the original mod after the patch is why my changes to her face do not last through a load screen. My changed face is replaced, during a reloaded game or a load screen, by the original face. Hence, my desire to make Vortex load the patch after the original.

So, is there a way to change Vortex's Mod Load Order without a conflict to resolve?

Just for fun, I'm going to manually DL and then rename the patch mod if I can. Mod name, or esp name?
