RyuaNesha
Ive chosen to establish a topic devoted to finding a solution to this, as its a problem some others have, and searching for posts related to this is tedious since clever people like to name their topics with something as generic as dawnguard bugs. So the problem here is that it is possible to enter first person mode for a second or two before the game forces you back to third person.Notes:Persists after clean installation.New games are unaffected.Save affected has significant progress. (Leader of most factions, significant side quests done.)Old version of character's save from weeks back doesn't have this problem. (Too little progress to use however)Kicks you back after a specific tick(2 seconds). If you enter in the beginning or end of that interval, you might remain in 1st person for .5 seconds or 1.5 seconds. (Suggests script) Now I've read of a few things in the past how certain mods can leave scripts in your game, and other Bethesda quests (such as mind of madness) can have looping scripts even once you finish the quest. Im thinking this is dawnguard conflicting with it. It might be some quest I completed between these two save points that has a script running that shouldn't be.One other possibility is that my character used to be vampire, but I used console commands to cure this. Could be an incompatibility there. Either way, these are just the observations of someone who has done too much troubleshooting, but im stumped at this point. Forums doesnt want me uploading my papyrus log, and not sure how to set a spoiler box for it. Meh. :psyduck:
GregP
Just wanted to pop in and confirm that I too have the exact same bug.
RyuaNesha
What level is your save, and how far through the questlines/misc quests are you?
GregP
Level 21, and I'm far enough along in the main quest and a bunch of other faction quests that I definitely cannot imagine starting over. I'm thinking of giving this a try: a guy at the Bethsoft forums seems to say that starting a new character will fix it (which is obvious) but there seems to the suggestion that then going and loading your previous save will fix the problem in that save: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1401819-missing-texturescannot-enter-1st-person-view/
lillemakken
I have the exact same problem. I did some tests. First of all I have several backups of a clean skyrim folder installation and one with mods, "STEP - Skyrim Total Enhancement Project" to be exact.Installing Dawnguard into the clean Skyrim folder worked perfectly. Nothing wrong as expected. However, installing Dawnguard into the Skyrim folder containing mods or, the mod(s) that is incompatible with Dawnguard, causing this bug, forces me into third person. EXACTLY as you described it. I'm running out of ideas. Perhaps there is a particular mod we have in common that is causing it. EDIT: I kept loading different save files to see if any of them did not have the bug and ACTUALLY I had a save file that I had made inside coc qasmoke that was made with every mod disabled and I WASN'T forced into third person! I remained in 1st person to my luck and surprise! However, the occasional CPU spikes came back :/ Edited August 8, 2012 by lillemakken
bumbousdude25
I'm thinking it has something to do with already being a vampire/ werewolf when starting Dawnguard. I get kicked to third person with my werewolf character, but NOT my character that is neither a werewolf nor a vampire. I've had both of these characters since before Dawnguard. Isuc141
I have no idea why but I'm getting the same bug, and I stopped using Dawnguard because of this, no idea what is causing it. All I know is that I had Dawnguard checked and loaded in my load order for a while and never experienced this glitch and then I had to un-check it and re-check it again and boom, I got this stupid glitch... Phatpat0420
yup its doing it to me too, but i just installed SkyRe mod and i kept getting CTD's so i disabled everything but SkyRe and it stopped CTD. so i went mod to mod seeing if i can have them enabled without CTD and i got the ones i want to work. so i went to reenable dawnguard.esp and thats when it happened, and just to be clear ive played through and beaten dawnguard and this never happened, only after i installed SkyRe and disabled all other mods then reenabled most including dawnguard, did this happen
GregP
Bethesda's Tech Support advised me to go back and revert to an earlier save to get rid of this bug, and apparently that's all we can do. EXTREMELY frustrating, as I'd already put about 6 hours into the game since buying Dawnguard that I'll now have to go back and do over.

EXTREMELY frustrating, as I'd already put about 6 hours into the game since buying Dawnguard that I'll now have to go back and do over. The weird thing is, I went WAY back on my werewolf character (I keep all of my saves), and it still does it. I can't find a save that doesn't do it. :\
