Construction set help

So what you are saying is that each time I try to connect the doors I have to recreate each NPC, rewrite AI packages, rewrite both of my books and make new vendor chests? If I change the name of a door that door isn't in my file the next time I open the mod. That is why I made a second esp in the first place. I took several hours to make each item in my Extras esp and saved it so that I could add them to my mod when needed. Is that a problem? Do I need to open my mod and recreate all those items in that file? I'll probably loose it all when the CS crashes.

Saving often should help keep you from loosing too much. But the thing is you can't have TWO active esps at once, only one. So the way I'm seeing it is because of the way you're handling things you've got stuff going on in both esps that are making them conflict with eachother. The only time you should have two esps is if say, you want to give the player the option of MORE NPCs, they can enable that one, but if they don't, then it won't matter.

I guess I'll have to try combining the two but I thought that was what I was doing when I set the file to active. Vella den Keep is still one esp. I just ues two esp's to put everything together in the construction set. Just like when I open my mod and the oblivion maser file opens with it even though I didn't check the oblivion file. They are only separate in the construction set not the mod.

everyone says to save often even the wiki but when I'm setting up my mod it doesn't matter. If the CS crashes I have to redo everything. I can't go into my mod and connect one door. If I do connect only one door when I try it in my game the door is all I have in my mod. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a way to go into my mod and change something without having to copy each cell and reconnect each door?

Was just heading off the bed and doing a final lookthrough on the forums... you shouldn't be copying the cells to begin with. There should be no need to (infact I don't think I've EVER copied a cell)

You should be able to just go to an existing cell, plop the door down, link it, save it, test it, then go back in, plop another door down, link it, save it, test it, rinse and repeat as many times as desired. If problems persist please contact your doctor. May cause eye irritation, high blood pressure, and headaches. If prone to migraines do not use this product.

Srsly, no more copying. I don't see why you've been doing that and if you've been copying your cells, i'll put this into nice purdy big capital letters for you so it'll stick. THAT IS THE SOURCE OF ALL YOUR PROBLEMS! IT IS THE REASON NPCS ARE MISSING AND YOUR PATHGRIDS ARE BEING DELETED!

If I would have caught that earlier I could have mentioned something but I didn't think you were copying the cells (and when you copy cells the pathgrids aren't copied over)

If you have more questions, send me a PM and I will tell you how to more easily contact me when needed. But again, DO NOT COPY YOUR CELLS! THAT IS THE SOURCE OF ALL YOUR PROBLEMS!

Oh, and whoever told you to copy the cells? Stab them in the eye with a rusty spoon for me.

OMG! I am such a noob! I know it, go ahead and laugh. I have been opening the construction set, choosing data, my mod and clicking OK. A window pops up saying that I have not set a file as active, do you wish to continue? I would click yes and copy all my files. Basically I was starting from scratch each time. I just changed one of my copies of my mod and entered the game. It worked!

A message to all noobs " ALWAYS SET THE FILE TO ACTIVE"

Thank you so much Khet for sticking with me and offering so much good advice. If I put this mod out for the public I'll be sure to give you credit for all the help. Also thanks to Ethre for offering to connect the doors for me. I think I can handle it from here but I'll be sure to come to this forum when I make my next stupid noob mistake.

Bad noob!

Haha, we all make mistakes from time to time. Sorry it took me so long to figure it out, but I didn't get much sleep the night before so I didn't quite catch on at first what you were doing wrong. Everything should be right as rain with you now. And yes when working on a mod and you set it to active that means you will SAVE and change that esp. What you were doing was creating a whole bunch of esps that were DEPENDANT on the previous ones. Everything should work out for you now (with less crashes actually, since copying too much at once can kill the CS)

This is amazing! I've been able to do in one day what I have failed to do in two months. Thanks again.

Awww I'm sorry you had so much trouble, and Wow! I'm really impressed with the storyline and planning you put into your mod. How fun! I'm looking forward to testing it out! I'm really glad you were able to solve the trouble!

Basically just a "Right on!" post here.
