Balrahn
Hello Everyone, I'm currently trying to create my own custom race through GECK which turns out fine. I've added my own meshes and textures to support my own unique look but the moment I click "Ok" in the projection screen (before exiting vault 101) after I've set her appearance, the game crashes. I figured maybe if I leave the settings as it is (vanilla look) and use a mod to bring up the projection screen afterwards it would work but it still crashes. At this point I'm unaware what the problem is. Any advice would be appreciated. Edited August 7, 2012 by Balrahn
GrindedStone
1st on FO3 in particular you need to have a older an younger race. Namly the younger, which requires you to create a seperate young child race which has your race set as the older. This way when you grow up it transfers to the custom race, instead of the default race, thus losing any settings. 2nd you must have created NPC's which have the is facegen preset flag checked. U need a male an female. RacePresetF01 an RacePresetM01 you can name them as you like, but it's better to match the editor name an game name using something that ends in either F01 or M01 2 3 4 5 an so on. Geck is only more easy when you are going to set meshes an textures for the race. Nearly everything else is less work if you perform it with FO3 edit. For example you can duplicate all 20 of the vanilla preset NPC's as new ID's, an also batch change the editor id's at the same time, leaving only the matter of changing the race. Working on mods with the GECK leaves them dirty. You need to clean them in order to test it. The clicking an clacking an saving an loading often locks in garbage, most of the time which has nothing to do with what you were working on. Identical to master records for example will cause random crashing in both FO3 an FNV. You can't clean the DLC, and in very rare cases cleaning a mod will break it. However 90% of the mods you download are not cleaned prior to upload. Even people that do care an also know how to read, often forget anyway. Hence why FO3/FNV crashes so much. There are many other factors, but few that are this easy to fix.
Balrahn
Alright, thanks a ton. That makes a lot of sense. I didn't think about that. I'll go ahead and give that a try. Thanks for the advice.
