wildgravity
So Ive been trying to change the color of a texture for a certain hair mesh, and Im using the gimp. when I export the file, however, I get these white streaks in the hair texture, even though other textures I change manually dont do this. I have successfully changed this texture in the past, but it was a couple of years ago and I dont remember how to do it. Wondering if someone else could take a look at the files and tell me what Im doing wrong. eh?
Deleted53139156User
You need to check your export settings. Gimp doesn't natively support .dds so you need a plugin also you have to check the compression & format export settings and update mipmaps if it has them. Something is probably getting flattened when it shouldn't. Edited March 24, 2019 by Guest

Something is probably getting flattened when it shouldn't.Thank you so much for responding, I do have the plugin to support .dds and have used gimp as a program on a number of textures, even in this very file, this is the -only- texture file ive ever had this issue with, and ive overcome it before with the gimp, but i dont remember how as it was years ago. I suspect your right about something being flattened when it shouldn't be, and the closest ive come to overcoming the issue is by exporting the texture and checking "bc1/dxt1) (with no compression to the mipmaps) but even the the streaks remain at a distance when I scroll out. I have even been able to change this file briefly but for some reason the change wouldnt stick. Any suggestions as to how I need to be exporting the file in order to maintain its transparent layers, or what step I am missing?
Deleted53139156User
The texture changing when scrolling out is most likely a mipmap issue if the texture is fine up close. Tell gimp to generate mipmaps on the export settings to update them. Default mipmap settings should be fine.
wildgravity
I am selecting the option that says generate mipmaps on both of the files present in the folder after i change the color and run into the same issue
dubiousintent
It might have to do with which DXT format are you exporting as. Bethesda only supports 1, 3, and 5. -Dubious-
Deleted53139156User
Don't export as DXT 1 try exporting as DXT 3 and select generate mipmaps. Pretty sure DXT 1 compression is causing the flattening don't think it supports alpha channel (transparency). wildgravity
Okay Im gonna try both your suggestions and get back to you, once again, thank you so much, I cant tell you how long ive been working on this with no help. I'll post an update on weather or not that generated it
wildgravity
alright i tried to export it in dxt 1 and every other dxt, no dice, still getting these white streaks in my texture. If i knew how to post a screen cap i would, but if anyone would be willing to be a hero for me, and i can provide the texture in question so someone with greater experience then me could take a look at it and tell me what im doing wrong
Deleted53139156User
Upload the reclored versions somewhere in a .xcf format don't resave, export it as a .dds (I can't do anything with it if it has the streaks already) and I'll look at them/export them.
