I don't like this game!

Sorry, I just do not like this game, I've done arena, daggerfall, morrowind and oblivion, but this has no character, plot or reason and above all any colour to it. It is in granular black and white with a slight tinge of scenery here and there. But the main reason I hate this game is the strangulation of a basic UI into something bizarre! I think Bethesda has created a frankenstein monster sort of interface that is quite repulsive?

Back to Oblivion and Morrowind for me!

To be honest, I personally enjoyed Oblivion and Morrowind in terms of narrative and quests more than Skyrim.

Do you go out and lock an entire group of people into a party with a promise of gold only to manipulate them and kill them all as part of an assassination contract? No, but you... Meet a Vampire Child, I guess?

Do you cause the downfall of four living gods because of their circumstances, and single-handedly change the culture of an entire nation? There's a civil war, I guess...

My point is, Skyrim seems to have improved graphically, but in terms of quests, they have been lacking. Compare Morrowind's quest objectives and the detail put into them.

Morrowind: "Mouth Mallam Ryon wants me to ask Baladas Demnevanni about the disappearance of the Dwarves, Dwemer artifacts, and the Dwemer language. Mouth Mallam Ryon warned me that Baladas may not answer the questions. This is acceptable, I need only ask the questions and return."

Skyrim: Find Belethor (Or something like that)

A little late to the party, but yeah... I don't know anyone who said "Dang, that vanilla UI of Skyrim is the best for this sort of game!"
Not even from one of the 10 or so console players I talk to.

I bought the game on 11.11.2011 and stopped playing after the first two hours for a couple of months because of the bad UI, until the first SkyUI version showed up.
I could have lived with the many many bugs (hey, it's a Bethesda Game, right?), the stability issues (I didn't have any since Morrowind) and the overall underwhelming narrative for a while but the UI was that one thing that really nearly killed Skyrim for me.

But on the bright side it also put my views towards Bethesda back into the right perspective. From "I would buy anything from them at any time, they can't do wrong, because they're the good guys" to "Meh, let's wait until it comes out and someone I trust makes a review and shows all its flaws" within a few weeks. So, by the time Fallout 76 came along, I was absolutely prepared and not even surprised anymore.

I like to compare Skyrim to Stronghold 2. They focused so much on improving the look of the game that they shorted themselves on the story that the older games had. However I still think skyrim is an amazing game with so much replay potential.

Ouests in every game so far have always been basically the same, go here and do that or kill that person, but the quest descriptions of Morrowind and Oblivion were indeed much better. And while the overall storyline of the older game are far superior and more involved its the simpler nature of Skyrim that I actually like. I feel that the option to roleplay different character types is actualy greater in Skyrim than any of the previous games. I don't feel so locked into and certain character type as I did before.

The vanilla UI for Skyrim is fine in my opinion, it is simple to use and does what you need. To be honest if the UI of a game is something that defines the game for you then your playing the wrong sort of games. A game should be about its story and its content and its visuals, not about what its menu's look like. Get over it folks because if you stop for a second and actualy think about it you will realise IT DOES NOT MATTER!!! SKYUI is out there and its amazing so just use that and stop moaning already.

Well... Don't play it. And you have your reasons. It's not like anyone's forcing you.

Thank you Sir, I was getting a little putrid feeling after reading the few posts above yours. I also bought the game on 11.11.2011.SFW? Difference, even tho it was way diff than Oblivion (I played Morrowind too btw), I kept playing. And loved it. Modded it as soon as possible.. Etc. Never did I not like it.

Maybe the reason it seemed simpler, was it would've been harder to voice? Cause this game was all voiced basically. Not sure. I just went with it myself. I loved the Knight of the Nines quest in Oblivion. Some of Skyrim's quests might seem basic. But there is absolutely nothing bad about the game imho. I'm level 60, and i have ignored the "civil war thing" this playthrough..

Play it like ya want to!
