hoots7
The mod most people have seen is an actual multiplayer mod, but the animations etc. are blocky since the connections aren't synchronized=animations aren't synchronized. Another problem with playing Oblivion online is that we'd need a online database with everysingle mesh and texture ever made for oblivion from which everyone playing on the server would get the necessary textures/meshes loaded, so they wouldn't get the 'WTF MISSING MESH' signs or purple textures all over the place. What if there were defaults for missing stuff (items & textures)? For instance; I have a super duper cool armor set but the server doesn't so instead of putting the big ! it dresses me in say striped prison clothes or a pink tuxedo. The same would go for weapons & everything else the server couldn't find, it would replace it with it's default items. In fact this would be a good separate project.Think I'll start a topic on this. What I personally consider possible would be a LAN type multiplayer with 2-4 players, possibly all family members, so the mods list everyone had would be quite similar, pref. identical, and easy to share so no one would have errors, purple objects or WTF signs all over their screen. I'd settle for LAN play, would still be fun. EDIT:Started new topic http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=75852
conejeitor
(ie)When you start on Freelancer networked, you start from zero. So everything that is available on the networked universe, depends on the server, including the mods. Again, I'm not a programmer, but if you have to sync only 3 or 4 people, is that so demanding for the PC or for the network? That sync is present in Freelancer, which in terms of "elements", is as demanding as Oblivion is. I mean, Oblivion is much better in term of graphics, but that does not have to be sync through network right? Only the elements needs to, such as, number and position of enemies and friends, places to visit, relative location of the players, etc.But the rest, the world that we see on the screen, is part of the game itself, it doesn't have to be networked. Am I right?
Varus Torvyn
From what I've heard & read from posts by TES veterans, Bethesda's point of view is that there would be a lot lost on a multiplayer game. I cannot visualize an online RPG that could honestly match either Morrowind's or Oblivion's open-endedness, sheer immersion, etc. They are dead set against mutilplayer for FO3 as well. They say single-player is the way to go development-wise.
conejeitor
I see.Freelancer is as open ended as oblivion is, though.
ihateregisteringeverywhere
I thought that an oblivion pre-loader that would allow you to search for servers/host a server and synchronize mods with the other pc would be nice. It would merely require... STANDARTS. Which oblivon will never have as far as mods go :P.
Bongbang101
a multiplayer would be realy cool but will it ever happen only in dreams im afraid i tryed to make the mod for it and my computer exploded sort of like the fan came loose (my faullt) and it tore up the insides you see although you might get better cooling if the fan didnt have a cover it just not worth the risk. bben46
There are still a few of us who would rather not (or in the case of dial up access can not) play the multi player games. Please leave us at least one good single player game. The MMORG business model is Pay every month or loose your account. It's very attractive to the big businesses that you love to complain about because once you are hooked, they get more of your money every month. WOW is the best that can be done with today's technology in a multi player game. And NO MODS!
conejeitor
But I do love single player's, and I usually do not play in multiplayer when the option is available. It is just that Freelancer MP was such an exception and such an amazing experience. And Oblivion, as I said has very similar gameplay experience, so as an exception, it has its potencial. Freelancer was amazing as single player, and you may play a year without getting bored. But then there is the next year. And for that, MP experience was a whole new game, as good as SP. I wonder if you see my point without having the experience, so get Freelancer! When you fight with a friend, each one using their own qualities. When you explore and talk each other about your discoverings and experiences, it gets so much more real.I mean, if these kind of forums make a better game experience, imagine how is commenting on real time, while playing. PD: The moding is agreed among the people that share the connection, from when you sign up. And you don't need to pay.
tcwleblanc
after playing games like WoW and Everquest and Oblivion it seems like way too much would be lost in oblivion in the way of story immersion etc.
