Should mod categories be further subdivided?

Even if you are a newcomer to TesNexus(formerly TesSource), you'll notice it's hard to find just what you're looking for. There are so many mods with more made every day that it's hard to search through some categories as they're filled to capacity. I feel that there should be further subdividing among subjects.

Take music for instance. Just type in music for search and 14 pages come up and that's not counting music mods that don't have music in their title. That's enough for it to have it's own category.

Another division that would help is "Adult". Having an adult category for the 'eye candy' type mods would not only help make search easier but would be a way for the ratings not to be skewed due to people simply just giving nudity a 10 without bothering to check if it's a good eye candy mod or a bad eye candy mod.

A category for monsters/creatures/enemies would also help. That's what I wanted when I first started seeking mods. It's hard to find them in the existing categories, they're mixed mostly into models and textures and NPC's and various other places.

there are many more of this type that should/could be subdivided making the searches easier. Take this from a guy who has went through every single gameplay page and miscellanious. It's hard as hell to find what you want.

Do you feel the same?

I never have a problem finding stuff I'm looking for because I know the proper way to search. However for the majority I'm sure it's somewhat difficult.

That's why we have threads like the Mod Detectives though, although I think there should be additional one for whether a type of mod exists as well, as one for the mod you believe exists but don't know where to find. That would be helpful.

I suspect that re-categorizing the existing tens of thousands of mods (seems like that many) would be a huge endeavor plus a pain in the ass for our kindly host. I personally would rather not cause any undue stress especially when it may be difficult, but not impossible to navigate the current system, and is easy when you enlist the help of others.

My advice, hone your speechcraft skill. :D

That's the reason we have the tagging system for myrmaad, we can categorize the mods ourselves and help the job of mods this way. I don't usually have problems finding what I'm looking for either, but on a few rare occasions, I've had to shift through more than a "few" pages.

You could try thinking of the new sub categories Shadow and then drop a topic at the Feedback, Suggestions and Questions forum when you've got clear ideas. The prospect of new sub categories sounds good, but if not made right, could make things even harder to find.

i think that the category called Amor/waepons should be divided in to two categories.. and i agree with the guy above me^

I agree with both of these, plus it would be nice if traditional looking Armors were separated from armored items that actually are Clothes. IMO

It would be great if they were categorized by Body Model, but now I'm dreaming and obviously completely out of my mind.

A category for modders Resource????

A category split between weapons and armor???

What are you guys thinking??

Doesn't matter, they're good ideas. Yes, this would be good for subdivisions. Weapons and armor are just so huge and grow by 10 every day it seems. Modders resource items are currently scattered all over. So these would be good ideas for subdivisions.

had you guys going there for a second, didn't I?

Complete and utter madness I tell you! Next you'll be wanting items and objects seperated from clothing!

But I agree completely, the file base has become so large that the original categories just don't work as efficiently.

I have to agree, while generally I know what I want to look for, it can sometimes be a pain trying to find something. Somethings I thought of while reading this thread (slaughter these as you will, this were only my thoughts when reading and most of them are probably just wishful thinking)

*Categories

-Subcategories

*Bodymods

-Exnem armor/clothing

-Robert's armor/clothing

-Others for all the MAJOR body mods

-Not so major body mods

*Items/Objects

-Armor

-Weapons

-Clothing

-Unequipable items

*Modder's Resources

-Creatures

-Textures (Walls, rocks, trees, stuff you can't interact with)

-Items (weapons, armors, items, stuff you can equip/pick up)

*Overhauls

-Mods built for overhauls (such as adding items/weapons based around OOO damage/prices, or FCOM damage/prices)

*NPCs/Actors

-NPCs

-Companions

-Creatures (cuddly ones)

-Monsters (not so cuddly as the creatures)

*Enhancements

-Weather

-Environment

-UIs

-Sounds (like symphony of violence)

-Music

*places

-Cities

-City Upgrades (Better cities, open better cities, stuff like that)

-Dungeons

*Total Conversions

*Quests

*Animation

*guilds/faction mods

*Saved Games

*Utilities

*Race/Class mods

ALl these ideas are good. It just goes to show I'm not the only one frustrated by having too many mods, too little categories.

Music could deserve it's own category. You can subdivide gameplay enhancements with Combat/magic tweaks and other...

There's just so damned many!!!

Here's the thing...I'm wanting to try out some cosmetic mods for a change. I've done everything else, it seems. But sifting for the gold in all of that is hard as hell for me. I don't even have the first clue what I'm looking for, and going through a ton of confusing other mods with them makes it even harder.

I'm pretty much reliant on paying attention to what others say about them, but I find I'm pretty much lost in what they're talking about.
