Help, how to embed gif files in forum threads?

Could someone let me know what I need to do, please?

 

In BBC, chose Media, then 640 × 607 for size and for the link;

At first when I do this, I can see the gif working but then if I refresh there is only this [without the . (periods) to expose the code] :

Put a direct link to the file, the one ending in .gif between img tags.
