jibjimbo
Hello, I've had skyrim since it came out and only had occasional crashes, but recently it's just been crashing around a minute after loading a save, it doesn't matter what I'm doing, it freezes then it just closes with no error. It happens in menus, walking, fighting etc. I don't think it's down to mods as I've had them all for a while and I only have 3 active. I also just installed dawnguard. Any help would be appreciated
Georgiegril
I also just installed dawnguard There's your answer, I'm guessing. Maybe a mod conflict with Dawnguard.Since you have so few mods, could you start over with a clean reinstall and a new game, then add dawnguard and your few mods one at a time? Alternately, if you had made changes to any of your settings via your graphics card interface, ini files or game settings, you may have had them overwritten by steam with the 1.7 update, and that might cause crashes. You might want to check those and make any needed changes before doing my more drastic first suggestion...
jibjimbo
What changes would those be? Thank you for the quick reply. I also did a clean install before as I started having problem with it just freezing, then me having to alt-tab out, now it just freezes then crashes
Georgiegril
The changes would be anything you changed, and the update removed or reverted to default. Sorry for the slow reply.... When you did the clean install, did you clear out all of your save games? If it is freezing/crashing on vanilla with no mods and no old save game info, then the chances increase that the problem problem is related to the game settings being too high or a problem with your hardware. If you have an an NVidia card, read this link...you may have a problem with your driver files being corrupted because of NVidia changing their update procedure. It you have your computer set up to automatically check for driver updates, you probably do have corrupted driver files, if you have NVidia. You might also try running on the lowest settings, no mods(or DLC) and then very slowly add changes. Bben's blog has really good information about basic trouble shooting. Also, if you use the Workshop for any mods, it is easy to miss a mod change since it would update your mods automatically. This caused a bunch of problems for me when I used to get mods there. tagigan
I had the same problem, I solved it by deleting the highres texture pack01.bsa and esp and HighResTexturePack02.bsa and esp. Then the game worked fine and I was able to complete Dawnguard without any CTD's.
