Need a 720p tv for ps3

I like my new 1080p pc monitor, but sadly most ps3 games are 720p, so they look really bad blown up on a 24 inch 1080p monitor. Because of this, I also need a 720p tv. I know what to look for in monitors, but none of the specs I've seen are consistent across tvs. Some people say a contrast ratio of 20,000:1 is good, which is completely wrong, while others say a certain monitor is 720p when it's really 1366x768. Blegh. Can someone recommend a good led tv?

 

It must have:

a native resolution of 720p (not 1366x768, or 1920x1080, or anything else. Exactly 1280x720.)

a screen size between (and including) 19" and 24"

at least one hdmi port

an LED backlight

 

Speakers are irrelevant, as I'm going to use my pc speakers connected directly to the PS3.

Also, does viewing 720p content on a 1080p monitor make it look worse than viewing it on a native 720p screen?

The PS3 does have a pretty good scaler, that said it's usually best to avoid scaling in the first place so a 720p TV would look better than an 1080p one of the same quality.

The other issue is that my 1080p monitor needs to be run through my video card in order to fix some brightness oddities, and obviously I can't do that on the PS3, lol. All the colors look faded when I play my PS3 on my 1080p monitor, though it looks fine with my pc.

 

I ended up buying a 22" LED model from LG. There aren't many LED tvs at 720p, so I'm glad I found one that actually has a 720p native resolution and not 768p.

I never knew playing the PS3 on a 1080p monitor would be bad. How come my friend uses a BenQ monitor with his PS3 and I hear no complaints from him? He loves the 120fps with his PS3.

Should work fine. I don't know why any brightness issues that would occur. It should scale to the TV.

 

But get a big nice TV. It's the best way to enjoy game's to the fullest.

My 60" flat screen (LCD) makes PS3 and Xbox games look amazing. Much better than on my 32" in my bedroom. (Also an LCD flat screen).

 

The 60" is a Philips, if you want to know the brand. I don't want to get up and look at the one in my room though :P

He's not really getting 120 fps. The refresh rate of the monitor is 120 fps, but the games on the PS3 are capped at 30 or 40 fps, depending on the game. Although the screen's higher refresh will help clarity and sync somewhat, it's not the effect of a 120 fps game. In addition, just because the screen is 1080p doesn't mean the game is 1080p. Most PS3 games and all 360 games are capped at 720p, so even on a 1080p screen they're still 720p stretched out. I've played plenty of PS3 games on my 1080p monitor and on a friend's 1080p tv, and they're definitely not running at 1080p unless the game itself advertises 1080p support (like in Sacred 2 and a handful of others). They look worse than they do on a native 720p screen unless you sit or stand far away.

 

Anyway, it's basically irrelevant now since I have a solid 720p LED tv. It's 22 inches, so I just have it next to my pc monitor and play PS3 games like I play PC games, from about two feet away.
