Lokik
Hello, I've been dying to play New Vegas again, but a lot has changed since the last time I installed mods for this game. I don't want to play vanilla, but I'm having a problem with wrapping my little walnut around how modding works nowadays.Apparently I need all kinds of script extenders and other patches, and need to create and modify ini files and whatnot to make it all work properly. I tried looking at modding guides, but they all seem to assume I'm familiar with most of it already, and they quickly get overwhelming, especially as different guides seem to use different mod managers as well. Basically, I want to play New Vegas with Jsawyer Ultimate Edition installed, and if I get that working, start adding extras like Populated Casinos, Casino Suits Fix, Wild Wasteland Integrated, and perhaps even mods to make the overall game look better too. I've installed Vortex, which is new to me, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. I downloaded the vital NVSE and used a Youtube video to help me install it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbu-NxDQS4g). I launched NV through Vortex, and "getNVSEVersion" console command confirmed it's working. I know I'm far from done, so I would be grateful if someone has the patience to guide me so I know what I'm supposed to do next, and answer any possible questions that might arise in the process, so I can finally experience this amazing game again. Lokik
Continuing, I'm assuming the next steps are JIP LN NVSE Plugin, and the FNV 4 GB Patcher. Does it matter in which order I try to install these? Edit:Before doing anything with those, I noticed Vortex complaining about the expansion packs requiring cleaning, so I installed LOOT and used FNVEdit to clean them. Not sure if LOOT was even required for all this, but seems they are clean now, which I assume is a very good thing. dubiousintent
I recommend anyone read the entire "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to understand the differences between this game and others you may have experience with; especially if this is your first attempt to play a modded FNV or it's been more than a year since you last did so. It should answer all your basic "setup" questions. By "expansion packs" I presume you are referring to the "DownLoadable Content (DLCs)"? Unlike with other games, we do not recommend you "clean" the official content (base game and DLCs). Only the author(s) really know if those ITMs are necessary (and in some cases they really are). Up to you, of course, but like any advice: if you don't understand exactly WHY you should do something it is wiser to error on the side of caution. -Dubious-
Lokik
Thank you for the link. Turns out it wasn't as difficult as looking at several confusing modding guides made it look like. I did "clean" the official content, but haven't had any problems so far. One question that I do still have is that can I run Vortex and LOOT at the same time, or will that cause problems? I've been closing Vortex before doing anything with LOOT at the moment, just to be sure.
M48A5
I won't use Vortex, but from what I have read, LOOT is part of Vortex. So, there is no reason to have a standalone copy of LOOT.
