l0nelyknight
24, fan of true RPGs such as Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Skyrim, Fallout, etc... Just found out about this site which seems perfectly fit for my taste. Right now I am looking for Skyrim mods, then I'll check for the other games as well. Perhaps you could advise me about the graphics mod, as I am afraid you can't just pile them on, they must erase each other somehow.I already have installed the official high resolution texture pack through Steam, and added a few other mods by the same way before I found Nexus: Enhanced Distant Terrain, Pure Waters, Caliente's Body Mod, Bella's Better Females, The Eyes of Beauty. So now, I am interested in a few Nexus mods, that I'd like to know if they are better than what I already have: for example Skyrim HD (2k Textures) vs the official High Resolution Pack and others? The Flora Overhaul? The Static Mesh Improvement mod? As they all seem to affect the same pieces of environment, I assume they are not 100% compatible, are they? If you have any advice for me, on this matter or other mod suggestions, I'd gladly hear it :)
Iv000
Welcome  http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/843/fishystick.png The HD textures mod is more intense than the Official Texture Pack. You can overwrite the Flora Overhaul over the texture pack you prefer, if you like the Flora Overhaul textures more than the other texture packs ofc. The Static Mesh Improvement doesn't conflict with other texture packs as it uses it own folder (read the description).
l0nelyknight
Thanks! I shouldn't have been so eager at downloading mods, now my Skyrim crashes at the launch :(
K00L
Thanks! I shouldn't have been so eager at downloading mods, now my Skyrim crashes at the launch :(Well first off welcome! And second what did you get just before it started to crash? There's a bunch of smarties here who can help :P
l0nelyknight
Thanks K00l ! I had installed a few mods in a row without trying them one by one: Skyrim HD (Landscape & Town), A Quality World Map with Roads, the Static Mesh Improvement mod, Cloaks of Skyrim & Winter is coming, JaySus Swords, Enhanced Night Skyrim, Immersive Skyrim Thunder and Better Dynamic Snow. The previous mods that I had were working. For the notice, my game language is actually French, but I don't mind some English here and there added by mods, however that might explain the crash. So I uninstalled my game, deleted all the Skyrim file content, and am currently reinstalling the game to start all over from scratch.
Iv000
So I uninstalled my game, deleted all the Skyrim file content, and am currently reinstalling the game to start all over from scratch.Aye, that's good. Next time you're installing mods don't install all at once, install a few and try them. You'll identify the one that's causing the crashing easier that way.If your PC isn't good enough, then it might have been HD textures causing the crashing. They put on quite a bit of pressure on you machine.

I'd think my PC is good enough, as it handles Skyrim with the official High Resolution pack at ultra level perfectly, but I'll make sure next time. Also with my crappy connexion (3G stick), it is difficult to download the mods with NMM, so there was a mix of mods installed either by Steam, NMM or manually. Next time I'll download the RAR packages manually but will add them to NMM to let it install them. However I think I read some authors say NMM was inappropriate to install their mods. K00L
However I think I read some authors say NMM was inappropriate to install their mods.Yeah it won't install all mods correctly. And some authors won't mention that their mod won't install through NMM so you need to watch for that. Honestly I manually install any mod I get just to be safe. The only problem I have with this method is how complicated it gets to uninstall it if ever it causes a problem or you want to get rid of it, especially if the mod implies overriding preexistant files. So how am I supposed to know if manual installation is mandatory if authors don't mention it? Any tip?

Any tip?Check the contents of the zip/rar/whatever compressed file it is. I'm not entirely sure if the files have to be set up in a certain way (most likely it should have just the data folder, and by that I mean that if the mod is set up like Mod.zip and then a folder called Mod inside with Data inside of that it won't work. I'm not 100% sure so maybe Iv000 can answer this for you).
