What about automatically hiding posts reported by mod authors? mods look at these reports anyway so making a post visible again shouldn't add too much work when that post is found to be reasonable, those authors who abuse the system can be treated in the same way people who make pointless reports are dealt with already.

That would probably lead to the original poster asking why their comment is hidden. If people can see who's been reporting who things could get nasty  I think maybe you're a little more aware of trolls Jim, cause you create a massive amount of content compared to the average nexus user, and so can probably see more benefit in author controls than others.

Unfortunately, like Dark0ne kinda said, many authors would develop a god-complex with the small amount of power author moderation would give them. And all the commenters who were affected, trolls or otherwise, would call foul play. Bit of a no win sadly.

As for the Repping System; I do think it's great for filtering out random negative comments (random troll sees a comment he disagrees with and neg-reps instead of ranting). However, I really would prefer to see the neg-rep button removed. Like someone mentioned above, it's effectively giving anonymous commentators the ability to say "I don't like this" without giving any reason, which can tick people off (including myself) immensely.

Positive rep is great though! If someone makes a funny comment or a valuable contribution then it's nice to be able to show your agreement without cluttering the comment space. On the whole, pos-rep is not usually bad, although if someone makes a nasty comment and it gets a lot of thumbs up I guess that could make the author feel pretty crappy.

Maybe better to remove the whole thing then? But if not, the neg-rep button really has to go because it's really depressing seeing a good comment voted down without a reason and it's usually due to mob-mentality anyway.

As for the concern about authors realizing that their content has been used without their permission, wouldn't a PM be a better conduit for that? And if a PM is ignored, a message to the wielders of the banhammer? The single biggest problem I'm hoping to see something done about is........post#212,User215: Does this mod work with the Penguins mod? post#213,Author: No, and it says so in the description of the mod, post#214,User216:Does this mod work with the Penguins mod?, post#215,Author: No, and it says so in the description of the mod.....and on and on. And then when users are trying to find answers to a problem, they have to wade through pages and pages of this nonsense, and it burns the mod author out. Let authors delete such comments. Also, posts of "Here are 24 different reasons why your mod shouldn't exist and is offensive in the eyes of the supreme being". Let the mod author delete these. They only burn mod authors out.

So.....is the decision then to make sure that mod authors trying to support their mod and users looking for help running a mod need to wade through the same question every fourth post? As well as going through a multitude of posts like "even though you spent a great deal of time working on this, you should have never made this mod because any combination of: I think it is unnecessary / it requires supporting mods / requires DLC / isn't canon / is canon" I get that censorship is bad. But the amount of foolishness that one has to wade through in many of the threads is nuts.

Not responding helps, certainly. I still wish there was something so that users and authors didn't have to wade through it all. Particularly a new user of a mod.....if I download a new mod and have trouble with it, I check the forums for solutions before posting. Having the majority of posts in a thread being nonsense makes this difficult.

There is not currently a mechanism to force people to actually read the previous posts in a topic. We seem to see a few kiddies who, in their rush to get an answer, post a question that has been answered recently in the same topic.

I blame this on the concept that everyone is always on line and the person who needs to answer the question never sleeps and doesn't do anything else with their life beyond wait for that specific question to be posted so they can give the answer instantly.
